O yes, the cable pundits, who yell in each others faces so the viewers can not even hear or figure out who is saying what. A general waste of time and airwaves.

Danae should have spent her winter in Berlin. We had about two weeks this year. Of course she would have complained about that too.

It is working so far. We have Obama, the ACA and no pipelines being built while restrictions on carbon dioxide are becoming more likely. Industry is evil and government is good. It is plausible, by observation.

Re: Danae’s hypothesis and climate change:-Correlation does not imply causation.-Just because they happen together does not mean that one thing caused the other. It could mean that the other caused the one. Or even that both were caused by a third, unmentioned item.-PROOF of causation is much more difficult than demonstration of correlation.-My suspicion is that most often, the cause is simple: The Passage of Time.

Where? Certainly not here. When each side makes exactly the same claims against the other (see @pbarnrob for example), it’s no more than children playing na-na-na-na-na-na.

The system is that the Kochs or some other 1%ers have Rush present some really out there notion. Next have one of the blonds on faux say “people are saying”. No one with an iota of intelligence ( which unfortunately includes a lot of people) believes Rush, but the blonds “people are saying” seems to fool a lot of people. Then O’Reilly, Hanaity and their ilk make a documentary out of one of their shows, supporting whatever Rush said, and by that time, it’s been repeated so often and by so many people, that obviously it’s true.

Well said regarding scientific method. And for the record, there really is no empirical proof that humanity has done a thing to CAUSE global climate change. There is evidence we have EXACERBATED it, but going through geological history shows that GCC is part of a natural cycle that existed long before we did and will exist long after we’re gone. And nothing we do can stop or even slow it down; it’s literally fighting a force of nature. Not that I don’t support what people tout as ways of combating it; I do, but for reasons far more practical and tangible: air pollution, cost of fuel, ecological preservation, economics, etc. At this rate it won’t be anything like GCC that kills us, it will be turning our planet into a toxic hellhole, economic collapse, a lack of food and potable water, or even some petty dictator doing something really stupid out of a hissy fit (::cough:: Kim Jong-Il ::cough::).

All of Danae’s yelling has had an effect, but just not where she’s living.Young Pasquale (in ‘Rose is Rose’) is mourning the loss of his snow fort. Only a few traces of white remain and he is surrounded by green, green grass.-There must be a scientific explanation of this, but, not being a scientist, I won’t hazard a guess….

First, check out the sources that climate change deniers post. You’ll find that every one of them is funded by oil companies or conservative think tanks, i.e., those who have the most to lose when we stop spewing our waste into the air we breathe. Then, check out http://www.350.org and http://www.skepticalscience.com/argument.php and you’ll find a well-reasoned consensus of the world’s scientists, together with supporting data. If you believe the wolves, prepare to be eaten.

Nicely done; wish I had the patience and the will to try to present the argument so fully and well. I would like to add a single addendum: water vapor, while having a significant effect on atmospheric temperature, can only be added to or subtracted from the atmosphere by temperature change and is, therefore, not at all within our control, except through indirect means such as controlling other greenhouse emissions, such as CO2.

First any comic strip comment that long should be flagged. This isn’t a “forum” though people treat it that way.-Second as per my previous comment, there is no proof one has caused the other. If data show global temps have risen and mankind had added carbon to the atmosphere, that DOES NOT PROVE THE SECOND THING CAUSED THE FIRST!-This is a scientific principle by the way. -Third Where is the alternate Earth without humans that serves as the “control” basis for your science?

And for another bottom line, much of atmospheric warming is due to an increase in aridity, which is caused by low atmospheric water vapor levels, which have been the rule for the past 15,000 years, causing the spread of deserts and the recession of glaciers, which continues to this day. Needless to say, if we had the water vapor to prevent the spread of deserts and maintain the glaciers, the greenhouse effect of that water vapor would be greater than that of the CO2 supposedly causing the increase in atmospheric temperatures, which are fairly meaningless in terms of the thermal profile of the Earth to begin with. Mankind has caused more atmospheric warming by paving over meadows and draining wetlands than by all the CO2 of the past hundred years. All water that is not in the sea was removed to a remote location and raised above sea level by heat energy. Glaciers are caused by heat, not by cold. Physics trumps dogma.

The global warmists posit only the usual leftist cures – less freedom, worse quality of life, higher living expenses, more tax monies diverted to their believers. It would be cheaper and less distressing for all of us to give them one-way tickets to another planet.
