I’ve always liked Tracy, but have to admit that Annie didn’t do a thing for me. I never could find a hook in the strip to cause me to read her strip….and if that hadn’t been enough, they did a musical play/movie that I left before it was half over in extreme boredom. I realize that I may not be the norm here, but after 72 years, I feel I have a right to my opinion. I hope I can get enough out of the storyline to feel like reading the whole thing and not miss the start of the new storyline when it is over.
“We’re a family again!”Now, where can we have the reunion picnic? And, can Uncle Morrow, Uncle RWM, and Cousin Timmy clear their schedules?!!I LOVE this board!
The interesting point today is that it’s “Dick Tracy and the MCU.” I had not given a thought until now about the idea that this might involve the entire MCU, or at least the members of it that we know. IF they all leave to go search for Annie, what will happen to the crime that running rampant in The City, with gang wars and numerous criminals seemingly escaping custody?
That’s the City Way, Daddy Warbucks! I’m sure you’ve played this game often enough before. Mayor Armstrong will hmm and haw a bit in order to cover her behind, but in the final analysis, money makes the political world go ’round, and the mayor knows that fact as well as you. Only question: how much does the loan of a City MCU cost?
Where did Annie disappear from? And does Warbucks know she is in the hands of a villain, or does he just not know where she is? If this is a kidnapping, and if it occurred in this City, then the MCU would have it in their case-load already, wouldn’t they?On the other hand, if Annie was somewhere else when she vanished, then Oliver’s check book will come in quite handy.
A day late and a dollar short:.I promised to take a vacation – and I did. And I’m sure many of you have enjoyed that vacation probably better than I did!.It was not my intent to comment until after the Annie story was over. I, like others, have no vested interest in the Annie story or characters. (I will take exception to Mr. Kolossal: I thought it a shame that he was “offed” so soon – he was just getting interesting, something Tabby Angus never did!).Looking back at this week:.A most tasteful tribute to Mike and Joe’s predecessor – and a back-handed compliment to Stephan Pastis (Pullet Surprise)!.(And, for those who care, it was revealed today that the elusive Bill Watterson had been drawing for Pearls Before Swine this week!).More curious developments for Moon Maid..While tsull2121 never expresses himself in a politically correct manner, I, too, share his concerns about Mindy..I remain uncomfortable as ever that we are expected to accept that Mindy is “evolving” into Mysta. Notable quote from the comments: “Evolution doesn’t work that way.” And I agree..But this is the funny pages, after all..I remain skeptical of tsull2121 ‘s comment that he would have preferred Mysta back from the dead: Didn’t he lead the charge of dead means dead! Baked into the pavement DEAD!".But I will be the first to agree that this Moon Maid is still part Mindy – and that is a wild card that we do not know whether Mike and Joe will play..I think it was cpalmeresq who also chimed in on tsull2121 ‘s comment, reminding us that, previously, Mindy had been a villain, and that ought not to be forgotten..Though I do remember a comment from Mike to me (via a slow boat to China): I was concerned that the new Mysta was being groomed to be a new (perhaps super-) villain, to which Mike said, NO!.I liked the comments yesterday that perhaps the Edgar Rice Burroughs movie will outlive both Kolossal and Angus..Even if it’s not the Moon Maid I wanted, well, it’s the Moon Maid that Mike and Joe gave us..So, with that,.TO INFINITY – AND BEYOND!
Mayor Armstrong: “That’s illegal, Mr. Warbucks, but I’ll tell you what you CAN do. You’re in MY city, you and your people get some eyeballs… You’re freaking me out, here.”
I might add (to my previous comment):.This “Annie” crossover is not starting well..Warbucks is launching his crusade with a bribe?.I do not see how to interpret it as anything but..Even if you are an Annie fan, this does not bode well.
Welcome back, Avenger09! Your vacation slowed down the posting action here, as you undoubtedly know. But you also saw we professed that we missed you! So, let’s start the party by critiquing how Daddy Warbucks holds his gold-tipped pen!
Some of the contributors here continue to speculate that Mysta may turn bad. I can’t see it. Everything that’s happened with her over the last six months says her former self is dead and forgotten, and she’s now a good person. More importantly, Mike Curtis has made it very clear that she’s not going to turn evil. I suppose anything is possible, but until we see some indication of conflict in Mysta, there’s no reason I can see to doubt Curtis’s word on this.
Walt wallet will casually mention to Vitamin Flintheart that his great-great grandson Boog has seen a girl just like her…Asp gets word and suddenly shows up in Gasoline Alley….as a substitute teacher…Punjab is the guest PE instructor….oh dear, how far can we go with this?..
The Annie comic strip had its charms, very much unlike the stage play and the movie, which both sucked. I’ve wanted a resolution to the Annie cliffhanger for ages, and now I may finally get it!

It’s not a bribe, it’s an opportunity to better the city. And if Tracy happens to find Annie, it’s a merry coincidence.
