Arlo and Janis by Jimmy Johnson for June 13, 2014
Transcript:
Janis: Why are you so mad at the squirrels? Arlo: They eat our tomatoes! Janis: In a few weeks, we won't be able to give them away! Live and let live! Arlo: She's right - they're just dumb animals that don't do any real harm! Arlo: Well, well! A bottle of cabernet!

The fun thing about the roadrunner cartoons was that they knew the laws of physics they flaunted.

I’m thinking of Bugs being tempted by a hip-swiveling fem-bunny-bot.

Those squirrels are not so dumb.

These squirrels must be related to ones that frequently pester Sophie in “Dog Eat Doug” and the Jimbo family in “Rose is Rose”.

And don’t forget: Never chase a squirrel into a tunnel.

I had a peach tree that the squirrels would attack when the fruit started to set. They would take a bite or two out of ALL the bitter, immature peaches, so the fruit never ripened. Not so smart in my book…

katzenbooks45!: We had the same problem regarding our crab-apples – which are inedible raw, but make great jelly and butter.

You are right about that Janis! Now if you could only get the squirrels to go after that zucchini…

Just remember, there’s no such thing as squirrel proof bird feeders, squirrel traps, etc…only uneducated squirrels.

I used to have a bird feeder hanging on a crook-shaped steel pole, but the squirrels would just shinny on up that pole and eat the birdseed. Coating the pole with Vaseline fixed that problem.

@katzenbooks45: they started to go after mine and I sprinkled cinnamon on the peaches and around the trunk of the tree. They haven’t come near since and the cinnamon powder is untouched.
