So, is this: The Summer Where The Boy Becomes A Man? It’s been fun to follow the events of the last couple of weeks, where there have been significant developments, unlike the monotony of the Prom sequence. Now, I am wondering how far this story will go into Gunther & Rosa’s Peruvian expedition. I hope it gets wrapped up fairly soon, because I am anxious to see some interaction between Luann & Quill this summer!

Personally, I can see Rosa coming back to the U.S. soon after she realizes that vacationing somewhere and washing bedpans in that same place are totally different experiences.
That being said, if I was offered a job in a foreign country that didn’t involve washing bedpans, I would totally take it unless it involved a high probability of contracting a deadly disease or getting gang raped.

Please please please, let us be done with Gunther. There can be plenty of new nerdy guys for the girls to meet at Moo Yoo to replace him!

I figured Gunther would totally freak out after a short while in Peru. However, it appears instead he will totally freak out while still inside the car on the way to the airport. Does that maybe suggest that this trip is a really, really bad idea?

Re pancakes. Sounds really good (but then again, ReallyBad at the same time). I like the idea of adding almond flavoring to the cream instead of vanilla.

I think Gunther’s courage, for courage it is, will hold long enough for him to get to Peru.
But yes, Rosa’s not quite understanding the sheer difficulty of what Gunther’s doing for her.

Hey Gunth?
So this “Road Trip” isn’t a TOTAL Lost, While You’re IN Peru, take a couple of side trips and Visit the site of the Nazca Lines and the AMAZING Ruins of Lake Titicaca and then PONDER “Why” a People came Out of the Wilderness, Built a Mysterious Advanced Civilization, and then abandoned it.

Once I took a boyfriend from NJ to my apartment in Brooklyn. He freaked out after about 15 mins. I had to drive him back. Some people can’t deal with a change of scenery.

If there’s anybody that the TSA will keep off a flight, it’s someone who is acting as agitated as Gunther is. Unless he takes a tranquilizer right now, Rosa will be headed for Peru, and Gunther will be headed for a holding cell.

Rosa is really smart and really funny! Her dry, jabbing humor is just what Gunther needs at this moment of Fear of the Unknown. Off course he’s never run off to South America with a girl before, but he will now! She is subtly coaxing him into accepting the idea by confronting him with it directly.

I still have bad vibes for this storyline, what with the “For Whom the Bell Tolls” symbolism and Greg’s aversion to happy endings. I fear that Rosa’s strategy will turn into someone’s tragedy.

It is just excitement, Gunther. I’d be having butterflies, too, if I were in your place, but while it may feel like you’re going to jump off the Forest Hill bridge, it is really more like jumping off the high dive for the first time. You will survive.

TORAD – just read your message from yesterday. A surprise party at the airport, hosted by Quill! Absolutely love it!

TORAD 2 – also like your observation that the only characters who get “farewell” parties are those that leave the strip entierly. In that case, I hope they don’t get a surprise party. :(

What exactly does Rosa find attractive about Gunther??None of his behavior lately would have any appeal to her.She must get some kind of thrill out of messing up other people’s lives.

When and where was Gunther diagnosed with IBS?
Argy.Bargy2 over 10 years ago
This better not be a dream sequence. A lot of annoyed readers would be the result of that…

And until someone has gone to a doctor and been diagnosed with something, then of course they don’t actually have it.

Something like one of our local hospitals here in Central Florida. My family and I have Crohn’s, which is called an inflammatory bowel disease. The clucks who set up doctor lectures at this hospital keep calling it IBS. -I hope most of the ‘specialists’ on our board are not actually clinicians….

Re: Greg’s aversion to happy endings. Anne Eiffel & T.J. is about cruelty and revenge for the fun of it. Tiffany: always the humiliated loser. Bernice: alone & snarky. Gunther & Rosa: hot girl and emotionally immature boy who just can’t satisfy her needs. Luann: incomplete without a boy friend. Ox: invisible & rejected by Tiffany. Brad & Toni: burdened with a nasty brat named Shannon. Knute & Crystal: the only normal, age appropriate couple who actually have fun doing quirky things. The only other nice thing that comes to mind is Brad’s proposal to Toni.

Gunther might bail out at the airport?

But we keep being told in this forum that Gunther has never been diagnosed as having Asperger’s, so it’s wrong of us to say that he does.
tubgrape over 10 years ago
C’mon, Gunther! Why stop at Peru! Grab Rosa and disappear into the deep, dark Amazon Jungle where you can wear loinskins, make a treehouse 100 foot above the forest floor, and kill prey with poison darts and live in your own fantastic world for two! THAT would be an ADVENTURE!
JayBluE over 10 years ago
I knew you’d say that!– I do know that it’s not a disease… but… I was making a point ….and that point being that he’s getting diagnoses “slapped” upon him … and no ICD9 codes to verify it, no “S.O.A.P.” notes, nothing at all! – The point wouldn’t have come across unless I said “disease”… and I figured the point would be understood and that the ‘figure of speech’ would be given “the benefit of the doubt”….
Angelalex242 over 10 years ago
Cheer up guy, Greg Evans at least isn’t as bad as Joss Whedon. Now there’s a guy with a pathological hatred for happy endings of all sorts.
Airman over 10 years ago
You are correct, my observations are subjective, as are those of whoever reads a story. That is why discussions are valuable because different viewpoints can be aired, and different levels of understanding can be presented. There is no right or wrong in what someone sees in a character or story, or how deep he cares to probe. If you look at a character’s track record, you can’t help but project where that track will eventually lead..
