Luann by Greg Evans and Karen Evans for August 03, 2014
Transcript:
Mom: "Your phone's bipping, hon. I think you missed a call" Dad: "That's your phone. I change my "bip" to "bloop" 'cuz you were using "bip" for calls" Mom: "No, I use "whoosh" for calls. I thought you used "bloop" for your alarm" Dad: "I used to. But it sounds too much like "zoop." So now I used "Doink"" Mom: "You can't use "Doink," honey. I use that for calendar alerts" Dad: "I thought you used "Poing" for that" Mom: "Ugh. We need to re-coordinate. I'll change my "doink" to "tinkle"" Dad: "I use "tinkle" for mail. Do you used the "dong"?" Luann: "Did you guys make popcorn? The microwave's bipping"

Many moons ago, I made new wav files to replace all my AOL default sounds., and people used to exchange the more interesting ones in the chat rooms of the day.It was very creative.I even had the sound of a two-stroke engine starting for when my PC was booting up.

Remember when cell phone tones playing a tune was ânovelâ for the time? And now, youâve got all kinds of special sounds⊠though many of us are content with just the 80 sounds that come with the phone, LOL!

Is this dialog just a test of how much the syndicateâs censors will let you get away with?

Iâve been meaning to change my whoosh for texts because my (very popular) son uses it for his texts. When he walks in the room, I start hearing whooshes like crazy and think itâs my phone until I realize theyâre all for him of course.

" . . . it is the old fashioned telephone bell."
I love that one! I had it for a while, but too many other people use it, so I had to change it. The problem is, Iâm deaf in one ear so I canât tell where sounds are coming from, so it was confusing for me when Iâd hear other phones with that ringtone and I would think it was mine.

I have a landline phone. It rings. Problem avoided. KISS!
Swiftbow over 10 years ago
Since I kind of hate cell phone alerts, I recorded myself sighing and use that. The ring tone, however, is Ghostbusters. Though I donât hear it much because I only give people my landline number (which just rings).

My favorite is sitting in a meeting at work when someoneâs cell phone goes off for anything at all and everyone reaches for theirs.

My ringtone is a clip from the cartoon Regular Show of Mordecai and Rigby chanting âWe know youâre home, Skip! Pick up the phone, Skip!" over and over and over.

My wife had an assigned ringtone for our daughter of her saying, âMom! Mom? Mom!â, which repeated after a short pause. During a visit to the physical therapist, my wife was involved in getting manipulated, the daughter called, and one of the techs ended up shouting into the wifeâs purse, âSheâs in a treatment right now!â

On my phone calls are a ring, messages a beep. Everything else isnât worth a sound.

I was watching part of an (unmemorable) sy-fy movie the other day and they played a background sound effect that was just like the ringer on my AT&T phone, the handset of which was, of course, in the next room. After checking for the call and finding none had come in, I rewound the DVR ro where Iâd left the room and there it was AGAIN!Good thing I was carrying the phone at this point, so I wasnât fooled a second time.

I think I dropped my cell phone one too many timesâŠhas lousy reception at the receiverâs phone. All scrambled up and such. My current cell is just your basic phone, no texting (although it Can receive them) or special stuff. Just a âPlain Jane.â Now I have to make a decision to see if I should just get another âPlain Janeâ one, or should I squeeze my eyes (and wallet) open and buy a smartphone? (I donât like phones that are smarter than I am!). Decisions, decisions⊠=-O
