7am and only 9 comments? Perhaps I’m not the only one who finds this dragged out combination platter a little spoiled? A bit sloppy today. Annie has to put her pajamas dots on before going to the window? Tracy likes knocking on an open window?
Couldn’t Tracy have waited til morning to tell Annie this? Or is he expecting a rescue attempt during the night? Frankly, I doubt it. And Tracy has put himself at great risk of being caught talking to a young girl through her bedroom window at night.
Don’t get me wrong. I’m not criticizing, I’m asking. This is a great story and I’m really loving it!
Tracy wanted to share the good news before the town was up and active so he wouldn’t be spotted by suspicious neighbor-drones, who might report his action to Axel. And, BTW, because Hotshot paints his plane Harvard crimson doesn’t need to mean he matriculated there….
I especially like the first panel of the Little Princess waking up. Officer Tracy needed to share the good news with his helper sans prying eyes. The bottom line is the time line. Tomorrow just turned into today. By the time the MCU crew return to work, there should be a report from Hotshot on his recon mission. Good pacing of a great story.
Other miscellany:.Temporary suspension of disbelief department:.That Warbucks/MCU would just HAPPEN to pick the only pilot with a B-17….That said pilot is the only one who paints his B-17 RED….None of this would have made sense IF the MCU did NOT know that Thunder Island is living in a pretend 1944….Or that Tracy is there, ready to recognize Hotshot Charlie in the flyover!.Yes, yes. I know. Purists will argue that, indeed, Warbucks/MCU did NOT know any of these things in advance, and likely, they are correct..Which is why I classify all of these details as “suspension of disbelief.”
Disclaimer: I am not a Little Orphan Annie fan. But I am trying to not “slam” Mike or Joe, or any of the people who do happen to like LOA – and this story..But, as with tsull2121, I am patiently waiting for the end of this story. But, UNLIKE tsull2121, I’m hoping maybe, we can get back to some….MOON MAID LEMONADE!
Why does this story with so many seemingly insignificant scenes have my attention? I am sorry but come on now why can’t we move along just a little faster? … :-(
night gaunt are you frickin KIDDING me?!?! sunday and mondays strips were nearly identical, then from yesterday to today its still the same night where the plane flew over town and EVERYBODY (minus sleeping beauty apparently) ran into the center of town to see what was up.
we dont even have a DEFINITIVE TIMELINE as to how many days tracy has been missing.. all we know for sure is that in simmons corner time its been at LEAST three days.. but according to the cop on the pier where tracy was last spotted in tracyville, he NEVER gave a definitive date as to when it was he actually SAW tracy getting into the boat. all he said is that he went out in the middle of the night and the boat was back by 3am (? not sure, dont remember exactly what time he said but i thought it was 3am)
meanwhile in tracyville its been MORE than three days since tracy has disappeared because punjab and the asp made the butcher go bye bye in the middle of the night, fritz ann showed up during the day, ollie sent charlie out with a nighttime call (ollie’s call was.. in strip.. at LEAST two days later after tracy disappeared)
theres SO MANY HOLES in this story chronologically that you could drive a sherman tank thru them and not hit the sides!
can someone tell if we’re nearing that “cutoff time” that mike and joe have to work under? i’m almost POSITIVE that this story has run on for at LEAST two and a half months now! (either that, or it certainly SEEMS like it has!)
and the funny part of it is… the ONLY progression the mcu has made in that time is calling in fritz ann who has info on thunder island.. and tess FINALLY finding that ridiculous video email message tracy left her.
on top of THAT.. we STILL have diet smith’s wonky experiment dangling in the wings… so theres yet ANOTHER plotline that needs to be taken care of.. what the heck, just toss it to the side with franken-mindy’s evolving into a moon unit (courtesy of frank zappa) and sparkle/junior’s STILL UNBORN child!! (which was revealed WAAAAAY back at the beginning of the kadaver story))
maybe sparkle is waiting for bony and claudine to show up so they can help with the delivery of the newborn tracy child like they did all those years ago with joe (well.. claudine really, bony was, i think, at that time apprehended already)
Re the “cutoff time” tsull, your guesstimate of 21/2 months on this comic version of War and peace was a little off. It’s much closer to 3, and like a good soap opera, one can pick it up anywhere and nothing’s been missed.
Not counting the “teasers” that appeared earlier, during other stories, this story started on Sunday, June 1. Three months is no where near excessive for a daily comic strip. Many of Gould’s stories ran longer than that. This story differs from traditional DT continuities in that it was presented to the reader as a mystery. We didn’t know what was going on anymore than the main characters did. In most of the really good mystery stories that I have enjoyed over the years, there comes a point in the story where the protagonist figures out what is happening, but then there is the last part, where the protagonist has to extricate himself or herself from some sort of a jam, or rescue someone else, or both. I think we are in that phase of this story now, although there are still several things to clear up; i.e., what exactly is Axel up to, and how did he set this whole thing up to begin with. I hope we get actual answers to these plot points.
How is this story dragging on? Something happens to move the story along every day. Who wants a short story? Until the strip stops moving, and day after day is just a placeholder, this is moving along nicely. But if you think it’s slow, wait a few weeks and read them all at once. Back in the classic era of comic strips storylines could go on for months and months.
Tsull, you noticed that I did not dwell, nor made light of, Tracy at the young lady’s window so early in the morning. If he had been seen climbing out of said window, I might have commented. Other posters here, bless their souls, commented on the secret meeting and you did not take them to task, as you did me. Wazzup with that? Jus’ askin.

Morning all. Hope nobody tries to call Officer Tracy to report a creeper! He does seem very happy to know it must be Hotshot flying that plane.

Sounds like Simmons Corners’ own version of D-Day may be on its way! I hope it’s not a big battle. I know that Axel at one time was building an army.
