Brad: "It's a challenge"
i FINALLY finished reading the whole archive of Luann and iâm pretty impressed, from now on i will be reading Luann strips everyday and commentingâŠâŠso ummmmâŠâŠHI EVERYONE!!!
Well, at least youâve found a way to get through all of that aggression/anger youâve been holding back. Why not do a Michael/Deanna and elope? That will solve most everything⊠;)

Yes, why does Brad want a big wedding anyway?! It would cost both of them money they could be spending on a honeymoon trip, or spiffing up Bradâs rental house, or etc., stuff like that! ;)
Itâs been mentioned before that Brad wants a big wedding ⊠but how many people would he and Toni have to invite anyway? Unless there are a tremendous number of people from the fire department who are going to be on the guest list, theyâd be hard pressed to think of a dozen people to invite.
since spring is too soon, and fall is too late, than it has to be a cool summer, maybe at night under the moonlight? and has to be half-fancy/half simple and medium size
Well, IS Katie keeps bopping me with her pawâŠshe wants to go to bed Right Now ! Luckily for her that sounds mighty appealing! âNite all! ;)-âââââââââââââââââââââââââHere Skugg (sic) Lies snug As a bug In a rug.â Letter to Georgianna Shipley on the death of her squirrel, 26 Sept. 1772. âSkugâ (sic) was a dialect word meaning âsquirrelâ (Benjamin Franklin, 1706-1790)
Well, the fanciest thing we had were party favors from âParty Cityâ and the cake. Other than that, it was pretty much âcome as you areâ, ha ha!!!
And it was in the basement area of a local bar (complete with a separate, private entrance to it) that they set aside for people wishing to hold private parties. We were able to rent it out for less than 100 bucksâŠ.
Which reminds me⊠Iâve got to dig out our âkeepsakesâ, since our anniversary is next week (or in a week and a half)! The missus and I like to look at our âmemory collectionâ each yearâŠ.
@Peanuts511: Welcome, first of all. I second SactoSylviaâs advice, itâs a shame you didnât know to take notes as you went along (or did you?). Youâll want to be able to refer to the business with Mrs. Hornerâs clock, or the time Shannon got lost, or when Gunther pulled Luann out of the canyon.
Whatever happened to Lindy, anyway?
I donât remember if Iâve told the story here before, but a friend of mine told me about how her son and daughter-in-law went horribly in debt to put on the biggest, fanciest, showiest wedding â I mean, they had a hot-air balloonist giving rides to the kids. They had a magician, face painting, balloon animals, a bird release, a DJ and a live band, I donât know what-all, but you get the idea.
And the marriage failed in less than two years, because they had no money left to live on. Well, thatâs not strictly true, they could afford basic groceries and rent, but everything else they brought in had to go to servicing this monstrous debt. They couldnât go out to dinner, take vacations, or anything like that. Incidental expenses like car repairs or dentistry always meant missing a payment somewhere else and having to pay a penalty to the balloonist, or the face painter, or whoever.
Early summer / late spring, with a small simple ceremony followed by a big fancy reception. The weather is perfect, the timing is far enough out to decide on details, close loved ones get to see the ceremony and everyone gets to celebrate in style.
Guys should just go along with what their love wants. Itâs her day, and heâs just along for the ride, which will be a great one that night, but thenâŠ
ORMâŠ.How dare your ancestors fight mine in the British-American Invasion of New France? What did they ever do to you :p (The First Nations picked the wrong side, unless you think they wanted to be reservated) ;)
Ha! Iâm sure that if I pointed out the innuendo, some would say I have a dirty mind. Thatâs not true, though. Itâs just lightly stained, and I like it that way.
Maybe Brad thinks 50 guests IS a big, fancy wedding and Tony thinks 50 is small and intimate. I wonder if theyâve even made up a guest list? Brad seems to have simple tastes so his idea of big and fancy could be what most people think of as simple.
1) Itâs great to see Luann & Brad communicating as adults, without the snark. They have a future friendship in store.*2) Wedding timing: First sign up for the premarital counseling & classes. Plan for your marriage to begin one month after the classes end.
âAll of us commenters will be there, too.â*BS: But will we Commenters GET CAKE? I go for either the traditional white (a corner piece, with lots of frosting) or carrot cake with cream cheese frosting. Raisins, for ORM.
Brad should give in to Toni on this. Itâs called Enlightened Self-Interest⊠or in other words, What Goes Around, Comes Around. Iâve been happily married for forty years (and still going), and have learned how to keep it happy.
He is learning that marriage is all about compromising. And Brad â It need not be a 50/50 compromise. Remember â weddings are for girls. She is Barbie. You are Ken. Your job is to make her look good.
IMHO â weddings are for the couple, to take another step in their life journey â and yes, it may be about compromise, but both are equally important in this step. If it becomes about showing off, or taking a second mortgage to pull it off, itâs not worth it.
Brad âs wish for a big wedding is odd given his simple tastes (save a glass, drink from the jug), his lack of friends even among his fellow firefighters, (hey, he spends all his time with TJ , Toni , or his immediate family, and weâve never seen any other relatives with only one aunt on an indeterminate side of the family ever having been mentioned).Mark my words; this is just Greg setting them up to run off to fight a fire in their wedding duds, a la the âFantastic Fourâ movie.
Size doesnât always mean it will cost a lot more.
True, but we donât know what Brad means by âbig.â # of guests? Size of the venue? Quality of the accommodations? We donât know⊠Although Iâm probably leaning towards â# of guestsâŠâ Just a gut hunchâŠ.Perhaps the # of guests might also affect the âsize of the venue,â but weâll see.
No, I really think Toni is avoiding wedding talk because she doesnât want to marry Brad right now. She made a spur of the moment decision proposing to Brad, and ever since she has not once wanted to discuss the wedding. The fact that she finds fault with every possible season means she is stalling.
âAlways with the negative waves, MoriarityâŠ. ALWAYS WITH THE NEG-A-TIVE WAVES!â
I havenât seen one iota of evidence t hat Toni doesnât want to marry him. I havenât seen any evidence at all to anything in re: the wedding. This could just be GE setting things up now. I think youâre just speculating⊠maybe because thatâs what you want.. I want them to be happy And I believe they will be once things settle down.
My late husband (passed away a year ago last June) found the chapel, the minister, the venue for the reception, chose the music, rented a limo, arranged the potluck reception (bring recipe), and chose the date. All I had to do was find a dress, make my bouquet and chose a maid of honor. Good thing too, I had the flu and almost didnât make it. Not having to worry or mess with any of the details sure saved the situation from my point of view.
Nope. Still got the registry list to show⊠â And not one item was checked off on the list. â I wouldnât have even bothered to register, but I had figured that having one spot would have eased the âheadacheâ of running around to look for stuff, and I had figured that instead of someone going to âChez Spend- A â Bunchâ, it would have been less expensive for everyone to go thereâŠ
And we had to get the housewares, ourselves. I wasnât kidding- practically the only thing we got was dishes. No iron, ironing board, shower curtain, not even a mop and bucket (but we just went out and got those things ourselves when we came back from our trip)⊠nothing but dishes!
LOL! â And donât worry, it was funny to us, when it happened! Itâs one that went in the âfunny memories wingâ of our âmemory collectionâ. â We actually gave 2 sets away, to a couple of people, so I also look at it as a âpay it forwardâ sort of dealâŠ.
