If a person clears trees in a concrete and steel forest (the big city), and no one is there to share in it (the people that matter most to them), does that mean he did it for nothing?… – What Gunther doesn’t appreciate, though, is the positive aspect, that he did a good job with just the two of them… and now he can be on the verge of living his own life, and it’s not about not being needed by Mrs B… just about new people to need him, now…

Gunther is telling Rosa to her face that he’s unneeded. So the only relationship that matters to Gunther is the one with his Mom, not with Rosa. That’s the cue to drive him to the airport and never see him again. Rosa. You picked a real loser and tried to make him into a boyfriend. It didn’t work, so give up.

Actually, it makes sense that at least some of the rich clientele at this plastic surgery clinic might be American or European rather than only Peruvians. Some society ladies probably choose to get their face lifts in South America, so that no one they know will see them until they have fully healed and then return home after their “vacation”, looking “refreshed”.

Okay, obviously Evans is a true moron as to how IT support works. I don’t care if this is comic; a kid just out of High School with no certification or IT experience would never be allowed to work on (especially a hospital’s) IT infrastructure. Quit being so delusional and making your characters to be these “super heroes”. First you make one out to be an unapologetic bitch that thinks she’s going to amount to something in politics; then you have someone that can only be described as a depressive slut, you’ve got a snake oil salesman who actually happens to be the only humanistic person in the strip… and now a KID that an entire hospital is relying on to keep their IT infrastructure running? I would say stick to teenage angst story arcs, but you can’t even have Guenther’s mom call her date by his first name! wth!?!??!?! Is that how you greeted your wife/significant other when you first met them?

Most successful IT divisions contain a number of people who learned their craft either in the military, or through on-the-job training. IT is changing every day, so whatever is taught in a university is obsolete before the newly minted grad hits the job market. The key to success appears to be the ability to learn very quickly and to see connections. That’s how my bro-in-law is doing it; his training was all in the military…

I know this is all just a story, a piece of fiction, but can you imagine being in Gunther’s shoes right now? Talk about possibilities for personal growth. Letting go, so his mom can have a real life. Letting go, so he could have one himself. What opportunity! Adventure! Wonder! Even if you weren’t, or were, young and in love, what a wonderful place-geographically and psychologically-in one’s life this could be. Youth—truly wasted on the young!

You don’t have to be an IT guy to look at a picture and wonder what’s in the reflection in the background, or to re-size a digital photo.Too many people who post selfies forget the background when they’re posting; like the one girl who posed topless on her bed with her framed diplomas, awards, and family holiday snaps on the wall behind her.

Why should I feel sorry for Gunther? He’s 18 and lives in a whole other country and feels depressed because his mother just started dating? And his dad is out of the picture and/or dead? The only person whose life will be changed by Mrs Gunther’s Mom (first name: ?) dating is Quill, because he’ll want to make himself scarce before Mrs. No First Name and Mr. No First Name start cuddling on the couch while they watch nudity-ridden HBO programs.

In medical records, I would be making copies or faxes, and if a doctor comes up to use the machine, I have found some that become bewildered as soon as they walk up. And these are people paid to have a scalpel in their hands! I wonder if I could come up and work on a patient or two while I’m waiting for them to finish faxing or making copies at my copy station?

I don’t think Greg E. gives a flying fig about being a stilted comic-writer. He goes for gags and surprises. It seems like all you want to do is stuff him into your idea of being a comic artist. What is important is how he wants things to be in his Luannverse… ;)

Here’s what you don’t necessarily get. Some cartoonists don’t see themselves as writers. They are more into the graphic side of this kind of work. So they put more emphasis on ‘sight gags’ (what you are looking at) then they do on the narrative.-If you’ve ever read Non Sequiter on Gocomics, you’ll see that Wiley Miller will sometimes respond to comments. He is especially vocal over the issue of coloring the comic; he believes it destroys the cartoons by taking emphasis away from the line drawing. He considers cartoons to be an art, not a storyboard.-Maybe Evans is more about the art form, and less about the story.
