As a child of the sixties, I grew up bombarded with the message that everybody should “be somebody”. Since every boy could become President, every child should grow up to be president of something. Probably took it way too seriously, but it made me an unhappy overachiever, trying to buy approval with “success.” After a nervous breakdown, several life-changes and a long recovery, I realised that not only will I never be a hero, I don’t have to be one. What a relief. I can just be me, and live. Sometimes the most heroic thing we can do is survive.
So Lucy, deep down, how does it feel, knowing no one will ever love you. Even like you, only tolerate you..When you’re old, alone, never married, never having anyone a part of you’re of your life, even your cats staying around only for the food and a warm place to stay. .When you die, it won’t be discovered for days, maybe even weeks..So tell me, deep down, how does that make you feel..Mess with me little Ms B.
Someone once said something similar about me-about how I would always be lost in a fog that will “never burn away”….“Never” turned out to be 9 years long. Don’t let the naysayers of the world drag you down, Chuck.
For Chuck: “Illegitimi non carborundum.”______________________
Note: I have also been told that it is said “Illegitimati non carborundum”, but it’s all faux Latin and as long as the message gets across, that’s what matters.
Not sure why he WANTS to be a hero. I think that’s the problem. He can’t take the time to just be human, and wants to be something else. I’m happy just to survive and make a little progress day to day. With 7 billion people on the planet, if everyone thought like CB, we’d have a mass epidemic of depression.
Lucy is by far my favorite character. CB has a very unhealthy self-image and it’s all self-induced. Lucy is just the medicine he needs. Had their lives actually progressed, I could see CB become what he’d like to be just to spite her. Then, when he goes to rub it in her face, she’ll say “I knew you had it in you.” or the like. She doesn’t hate him or she wouldn’t spend so much time trying to help him (or help him help himself). She reminds me a bit of a newer character, Louise from “Bob’s Burgers”, now that I think about it.

Who was it in Charles Schulz’s life that was so awful he had to make their likeness come out in Lucy?

Luckily for Lucy, Charles Shultz was non-violent. I’m sure that just about every character has felt like smacking her around every now and then.

I’d like to know if KARMA ever bit Lucy on the leg when she finally grew up. She certainly was ripe for it.

Lucy must really ‘hate herself’ to act the way she does. She’s only happy when she makes someone miserable.
