My first car I had was a “61” Rambler. It had push buttons on the dash and vacuum wipers that would only work if theengine was running. Not a good situation when I had tohave it towed by a chain in the pouring rain.
we had a Studebaker when I was in 4th grade, in like 1959. The transmission was a heap and mom had to put a rock behind the wheels to keep it in the driveway, which had a slight slope.
My first car was a 60 Ford Falcon. First I bought new was a 72 Ford Pinto (Agree, a fun car to drive with the 1600 engine and a four speed). Goal to get: A Studebaker pickup truck (classy)
Dad was a Rambler dealer (mom & pop type) so Mom always drove used Rambers, except for the time she had a Studebaker. My first car was a ’61 Volvo 544….drove it for twenty-five years and still drive old Volvos.
1st car was a ’49 Ford,three on the tree,$45.00,a bit rusty and all.2nd- ’56 Ford convertable,I rebuilt the 312cid motor,converted 3 on the floor w/OD,dual quads,mallory ign. :) Good days.
At our local dealership, Earl could probably get a job as a mechanic. All the old help that knew what they were doing have died off or retired. The young ones grew up with video games and computers. They know nothing about mechanical work and don’t like getting their hands dirty.
My first was a blue, ‘pre-owned’, ’49 Cadillac that I drove to high school, but only because my Dad worked for the local Cadillac dealer, so we always drove used ones. LOL
I learned to drive in a ‘61 DeSoto (yes, they did exist) but my first car was a 64 Nova that I got by trading my Suzuki X6 Hustler. (I’ve always regretted that deal)
MeGoNow: It is a ‘53. Prior had smaller grills and a little whisker intake below the larger ones..Countrysinger1951: That would be the ’47 Studebaker Champion. Cars in that year were identical to pre-WW-II models and had small rear windows, often divided by a post in the middle. That one had a large wraparound window, looking like a windshield. It was the first post-war design. It through the Pickles’ model were designed by Raymond Lowey one of the top industrial designers of the time.
My first car was a 1952 Plymouth Cranbrook with a 6 cyl. and three speed tranny. I ‘nosed an decked’ it, put on fender skirts and painted it an emerald green.

My first car was a Studebaker. But it was about 10 years newer than the one Earl drives.

My first was a ’61 VW, followed up with a ’65 Dodge Polara. Push button transmission and a really nice overdrive.

My first was a ’51 Ford – three on the tree … second was ’53 Studebaker – push button auto. Wish I still had either one of ’em.

Good memories this morning! I had a ’55 Studebaker Champion this color for my first car. It was 20 years old when I bought it and I loved that car!

Mine was a 56 Desoto, had been in a wreck, when the front faced north, the rear faced slightly northwest.

When I’d ask my Dad “why”, and he didn’t know the answer, he always said, “Just to make little boys like you ask questions.”

Grandad’s car looks to be about a ‘49 Studebaker, which is the first car I remember. He’s not old enough to have bought it new.

1951 Studebaker Commander ( Red ) My dads first car…All my friends made fun of it BUT it was a great car, except for a few vapor locks.

1951 Nash Ambassador was my first. Seats made into a queen sized bed. Great for watching movies at the drive-in theatre.

That car is a caricature of what is arguably the UGLIEST vehicle ever manufactured.

My first car was a ’55 Buick Special sedan. I still have good feelings about Buicks despite coming from a Dodge family.
