I agree, this one is a little vague. So Arlo went out to get some dirt for the litterbox, how did Janis’ boots get muddy? I do like his hat hair, though.

looks to me like Arlo uses kitty litter instead of sand on the sidewalk, but with no fresh litter he might have used some from the cat’s box which “modified” his boots a bit. Much to Janis’ annoyance.

I think Ludwig pooped in Janet’s boot!(I like Arlo’s “Calvin” hair, after he took off his knit hat!)

OK, folks, I’ll explain it to you. In the first panel, Arlo is spreading something on the sidewalk. In the second panel, Arlo is walking back along the sidewalk. Sheesh.

Go to any janitorial supply house and you’ll find a product identical to kitty litter, to be used to be spread over icy sidewalks. Most of us, however, just use the more readily available kitty litter. Arlo used all the kitty litter on the sidewalk, leaving none for the cat box, so the cat used Janis’ boot to dump his load. Cats are known to do that. Perhaps the stink of the inside of our footwear serves as an attraction. What’s so difficult about this? And as for Asleeth’s comment, just how low is your IQ? Go back to reading Nancy.

I got it right off the bat. I, too, have been in a situation where I had to apply used kitty litter on ice… and, yes, you do have to avoid the “land mines”….

Just rude! This is a comic strip, hello? I don’t like every comic strip out there either, but I don’t go bashing what many other readers say is a good one.

Thanks for the clues, people! Here in California, if somebody is running around with a bucket of cat litter, he probably found an oil puddle on his driveway. What is this thing called ice?

I don’t have a cat or live where it snows. Thanks to all for explaining it. I thought they used salt on snow.

Arlo used Janis’s bird seed to “salt” the walk.

Some of you folks don’t seem to read the comments before you post your own. If I don’t understand a comic, I read the comments looking for the explanation BEFORE I start asking…heck, I even come here for explanations of comics if I read one in our local paper that puzzles me!

Some of you don’t seem to understand that we can’t SEE all of the comments, only the last one posted, on the GOcomics webpage. So before you go yelling at people, consider that perhaps not everyone’s experience is the same as yours.

Also, I don’t get this one either.

I suspect Jimmy Johnson never dreamed this one would be over the heads of his readers. Or, more specifically, of those readers who do not have cats and icy weather.

The person we bought our last home from put clay litter down on the icy front path… we dragged that mess into the house for weeks. I thought she was just being mean; couldn’t imagine why anyone would do that. It just makes clay mud. Gross.

Ok, just be sure not to let the door hit you on the way out. And don’t worry. If the comic reaches your level, we will call you and let you know. Don’t bother calling us. Have a very nice day, now.

@asleeth“Thought I’d check back today to see if anything’s changed, and I see it hasn’t. I really have to question how this guy ever landed a syndication contract.”.He did it by being funny, and intelligent. They don’t aim only at the people who only read the obvious and simple..Take this one for example. Arlo used used litter to make the icy walk less slippery. Problem is that it included feline feces, which stuck to Janis’ boot. She isn’t happy with the situation and Arlo doesn’t see anything wrong..Quite funny if you can just understand..But you are right, you should avoid this strip if it confuses and upsets you. Life is too short to be unhappy.

Love Jimmy Johnson and his humor. Have to think a little bit. Wish all comic strips were as well written and drawn. JJ for President.
