Aah, âThe Romanticâ meets âthe PragmatistââŠ.whether to âhitch your wagon to a starâ,or âkeep your feet firmly planted on the groundââŠsometimes, itâs hard to âtrain your arrowâ to hit a mark âright between the twoâ⊠â Luann was having such a âbeautiful dreamââŠand then the alarm clock rang, in the form of Bernice. It may seem like a âdownerâ sort of thing, but âtis trueâŠwhether it should be an issue or not, it always seems like she and Quill keep coming back to this same scenario⊠â Somewhere in the room could be some dramatic âpopâ (as in bubble) music⊠â And then, thereâs the "if"⊠if is such an⊠âiffyâ wordâŠ.

Thanks for the cold water, Bernice. Just what Luann neededâŠ.
Argythree almost 10 years ago
Well, on the positive side, at least the only âliquidâ that Bernice threw on Luann was verbal (unlike the water balloon from her alleged professor, the paint spilled by âMr. Jockâ, and the paper mache plastered on her face by her so-called boyfriendâŠ)
Argythree almost 10 years ago
Anyone surprised that Nancy and Frank didnât say ânoâ?

Actually this 10-Day âInternâ B/S MIGHT Not Be Such a BAD Idea. Especially if âLuannâ Turns into LUANN the Whiny, Clingly, Possessive, âWhy-Arenât-You-Spending-More-Time-With-Me-All-You-Think-About-Is-Your-Careerâ Gal We KNOW and Occasionally Love.A LOT can happen in 10 days. Especially When Q-Ball is Surrounded All Day By Beautiful Interns that were Actually INVITED Into the ProgramâŠ..,

Wonder what mom and pop will say? Luann may be 18 and in college but she isnât able to strike out on her own and probably doesnât want to. Luann is still at that age where she sees the bright lights but not the dirt and grime of life.
michaellham almost 10 years ago
Luann isnât going to New York for the workâŠand thatâs not why Quill wants her to goâŠitâs for all that excercise time after the lights go out each night. Itâs about time too.
reedkomicks Premium Member almost 10 years ago
Bernice is right, and helpful to question this. She should go with them and see the sights with Luann during the day. NY is a wonderful place to hang out in during the summer when a lot of the live-ins leave.
Contessa Carrington almost 10 years ago
I like Bernice. She is the sense in common sense. Luann does not know how blessed she is to have a friend like her. She wants her to be happy, and yet for her to realize the reality that she is in at the moment.
Chuck374 almost 10 years ago
Geez, Bernice. Of course theyâll be together. Do you think Quill will be working round the clock? My wife and I are together and we donât work together.
seismic-2 Premium Member almost 10 years ago
The program in NYC lasts for only 10 days? Then it must be intensive, with sessions all day and every night as well. (After all, the evenings are when Broadway does its real work!) Havenât we been through this before?
Caldonia almost 10 years ago
Sure, Bernice, thereâs literally nothing at all worth doing in New York while your boyfriendâs occupied with a summer job.
The Old Wolf almost 10 years ago
Luann is still on the difficult road to maturity. Just like the rest of us, even the gray-haired gaffers. Sheâs getting better, but sometimes she still thinks like a four-year-old.

Some donât look upon it as âcoarseâ or even âvulgarâ in the way you do. The Brits have gotten over that over 30 years ago because they grew up and dumped their foolish magical thinking.++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++I waited to reply to this e-mail because I really was unsure how to take it, so I am asking for some sort of clarification. To me, it seems a bit like you are specifically taking a âjabâ at ME by suggesting I should be like the âBritsâ and âdump foolish magical thinkingâ. If that is how you meant the statements, then I askâŠ. what is âmagical thinkingâ about finding giving someone the finger to be rude or impolite? Perhaps as you say the âBritsâ no longer find that offensive. But, from what I read on line, they do seem to find offensive a backwards âVâ sign (backwards meaning the palm faces inward). Should I tell the âBritsâ that their feeling of offense at that sign is just ârubbish and magical thinkingâ? I really am interested in hearing what you mean by this, because at least in the way I read it right now, it still feels like you were specifically being a bit rude with your reply to me.++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++If you recall, my comment was a) that I know the giving of the finger is common, and to me it is not something overly shocking. There are some characters where this would be expected and almost ânormalâ such as those on âSouth Parkâ, but my point is that in the way Luann has been portrayed for the last 30 years, it seems a helluva departure, and does not seem appropriate for HER character. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++If you were specifically taking a jab at me, I do not understand why, as I was only stating my OPINION. I was not cutting down your disagreement with it.

Again, Iâm astounded how much money all these high school graduates seem to have. Gunther has no problem popping off to Peru, staying in an expensive hotel, booking a last minute flight on the most expensive day. Quill and Luann apparently have no financial worries about going across country for this internship.
ACTIVIST1234 almost 10 years ago
Bern (and reality) is quite a downer. But wait, thereâs more!*Lu, your parents are going to require you get a job this summer if you arenât going to school. Will Weenie World or Shop&Shop give you two weeks off for a vacation?*And BTW, the paper mache apparently did NOT take all the skin off her face!
Pointspread almost 10 years ago
Luann should wait until Quillsâ application is accepted, but Bernice Buzzkill should try to be a little less negative, she might have more friends..
Pipe Tobacco Premium Member almost 10 years ago
DaveâŠ. what sort of ârevolve around something other than an actual trip to NYâ do you mean? Are you thinking the story will be about a) getting or not getting the internship, b) Luann having to talk to her parents about going, c) Luannâs over dramatization of what such a trip will be like only to fall flat, d) another situation where we find Tiffany also applying for the (in this case) Internship, or e) something else? ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++I would be eager to hear your prognostications on how this will develop.
seismic-2 Premium Member almost 10 years ago
Quillâs 10-day internship will be non-stop work. Luann should just fly up to NYC to join him for a long weekend after itâs over, rather than going for the whole 10 days and almost never being with him.
Pipe Tobacco Premium Member almost 10 years ago
This is about yesterdayâs âZeboâ strip:++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++I was surprised to see that the âGothâ guy had been given orange hair by the colorist (I have heard that Sundayâs are usually colored by Greg himself.). It gave him a different vibe than the black hair I was presuming he had.
TheLiam almost 10 years ago
If Quill gets the internship it will be interesting to see how they handle it. Unlike what happened with Mooney (which shouldnât have happened in the first place) itâs not like Quill can bring her with him on the internship as his assistance. Which would most likely bring yet another fit from Luann of Quillâs not spending enough time with me.
TheLiam almost 10 years ago
Exactly! Nothing like being in a compromising position and instead of getting help from your boyfriend heâs taking pictures. I mean really, weâre lucky we didnât get a âQuill posts pictures on social media, Luann gets bulliedâ plot.

âIt wouldnât be surprising to me if Frank and/or Nancy were to find some reason to go to New York "*JPW â Of course! They LOVE Quill (like a son) so will definitely want to see him in his first professional production.

Bernice always rains on Luannâs parades..Who knows how much togetherness will be possible. Luann might well be able to sit in on (observe) much of Quillâs activity. .Bernice is jealous, thatâs all. Wants to create a problemwhere Luann was only ecstatic.

@Mordock:
âI Doubt That. Meeting and falling for a Guy From New York would be another Long Distance Relationship like the one with Q-Ball SHOULD Have Been.â^Yes, but donât forget that it doesnât have to mean that they would find some permanent relationship there. All it could (potentially) take, story wise, is just finding that they have the ability to find feelings for another, even temporary ones, and not exclusively for each other (or even if it doesnât really happen, they could still perceive that the other has that possibility, whether real or just imagined, thereby calling their feelings into question)âŠ
JayBluE almost 10 years ago
âŠSane way it happened with Kevin and Winnie (and whomever they dated, besides each other) on âThe Wonder YearsââŠ.

Night-Gaunt49âŠ. thank you for your explanation and your reply to my earlier comment today. It helped me a great deal. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++I was fearful that I may have said something to you that I did not realize was taken as rude. Now I see that I should take your prior reply more globally, and not directed at me.
Pipe Tobacco Premium Member almost 10 years ago
One other thing, Night-GauntâŠ. I do not believe there are âbad wordsâ, but I do think there are impolite words that are better avoided by most folks, regardless of what George Carlin may have thought. :)
Airman almost 10 years ago
Luann is the least sexy female in this strip. It will be 10 days of verbal ping pong, unless Tiffany shows up. I still canât believe that Gunther and Rosa spent months together in Peru and nothing happened. That was a real let down after such a build up. I fear that Greg just wasnât ready to take his kids out of the high school world.

There are non-academic âinternshipsâ offered to college students that arenât much more than volunteer vacations. That might be what Quill is doing.

I once spent a week in New York with my fiance when she was playing a concert set with the Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra. I had a great time. Luann can explore the Big Apple and then party down with Quill when he gets out. Whatâs the problem?
Argythree almost 10 years ago
SPOILER ALERT!!- Turns out, thereâs a good reason why the ârents didnât object to the tripâŠ
