Never mind the mini-dramas, how does John’s father magically teleport across that furniture to be within inches from the Gilfather’s shoulder, AND turn into a brunette, in P2?.Ahhh, the answer is plain in P3. John’s not doing sign language. He’s really doing the hand gesture for a magical spell; he’s looking to attend Hogwarts in the fall.
In all reality , all its going to take to get Big John speaking is a simple Hi my name is BOO which will cause Big John to say My name is John , want a ride in the car State gave me to play football ?
Wait, what? So State initially offered Pascoe a scholarship and he turned it down and then they offered it to someone else and that guy didn’t qualify academically so now they’re offering it to Pascoe AGAIN?
Mom and Dad are pretty tiny to have spawned a giant like John. Judging from the jerking off motion in P3 it doesn’t look like we’ll be seeing Pascoe’s Clarabell moment either. Or is he winding up to backhand dear old dad for talking about him not talking.
State must really need BBJ to offer a 2nd time. P3- Pascoe splashed on some Hi Karate and works on his chop. All you, ahem, mature readers know what Hi Karate is.
Everybody was Kung Fu fighting. Or is he doing Indian Sign language and trying to tell them he’s going to Carlyle to block for Jim Thorp’s great grandson.
P-2 The deaf reference is sarcasm, Gil think John’s not listening. I notice Gil is still wearing the coat he found that’s too big for him. Hmmm, MIMI!!
…and Why is Gil carrying on conversation for 2 people? P3 bubble is attached to Gil’s thoughts in P2, appearing as if it came from him. Does he assume that the guardians don’t speak too?
I thought he looked like an Indian Chief in a John Wayne cowboy movie in panel three. When he gets through waving his hands he’ll throw a spear in the ground.
The Gilfather must consider his failure to get Pascoe to speak the ultimate disappointment. He is usually so good at fixing problems. Let me think, he could have had a telethon fund raising effort for Selective Mutism featuring a grudge wrestling match between himself and the Valley Tech coach.
That arm movement in P3 is saying, “You make a good point there Coach, but I’m not sure that State is the best fit for me. While a scholarship is nice, my family will pay for my schooling out of guilt anyway, so doesn’t matter to me.” And speaking of guilt, here’s today’s guilty pleasure – Mopped Up Thorp.
Y’know, folks, something that just struck me: given that in the famous book, Boo Radley is definitely the silent type, I wonder if hauling John back in to the action has to do with that. Seriously.

Ah, good old State — the school of Chip Hilton, Ward and Wally Cleaver, and Ken Carson, Barbie’s boyfriend.

Pascoe is making what the NFL calls a “throat-slashing” gesture.

Also, what’s the gigantic reference book on the coffee table?

Pascoe has NEVER been deaf and Gil knows this so why is he even referencing deaf players.

Tie-in – Boo gets car, has accident, John saves her by breaking his silence and calling 911. Voila!
Oh, and Boo had the accident because she was in labor. The father? Stay tuned for the next Jerry Springer Show.

Mopman, any chance you have a side job cleaning the Pascoe house?

Meanwhile, Boo is trapped in a car with some aged pervert. Will no one think of the children?
Ha ha. What a silly question to ask in Milford.

I’m kind of surprised John didn’t already get an offer from Gallaudet University in D.C.

If we’ve told you once Thorp we’ve told you 1000 times. He’s waiting for that phone call from the Marcel Marceau Mime School.

Bitsy, I remembered that later but just got back on here now. My mistake. Still, it’s funnier my way.
