Congrats to you, Parker folks! Inspiration is allright. The drawing technique for the third panel is superb and – as a premiere – deserves a huge round of applause !
The abuse goes both ways. Nature gives us diseases, storms, predators and other dangers. If humans have gone a bit overboard in self-defense, they can hardly be blamed. Now that we have gained the upper hand, we can afford to be a little magnanimous. For much of human history, that wasn’t true.
How many remember Lady Bird Johnson’s “plant a tree, a shrub, or a bush” in an effort to improve the planet?.She meant well, and it still has meaning today…
Tandembuzz @pschearer“Have you seen what acid rain (and other pollutants) does to marble? Have a look at some ancient ruins: the statues have lost their faces, details, etc. The rock is no longer rock.”.Actually, it is still rock, but carbon dioxide or sulfur dioxide in rainwater make them acidic to dissolve calcium carbonate which alters the surfaces and forms caverns and sinkhole..The real problem is water. Dry places are dead places, but the rocks don’t have chemical reactions. (Sand blasting from dust storms is another matter.).“Imagine what the “base” of our world looks like after this stuff seeps into the ground.”.It has little effect on silica and alumina. The carbonate and sulfate were formed in the first place by such reactions. There were sinkhole and caverns long before humans. We just didn’t notice because we didn’t exist.
We used to plant trees on Arbor Day. Now our president burns 1,300 gallons of kerosene an hour to go to Florida with the Science Guy on Air Force One to talk about how the environment is going to hell.

Well, I guess if no one else is going to post the reference:
I GOT FLOWERS TODAY I Got Flowers TodayI got flowers today. It wasn’t my birthday or any other special day.We had our first argument last night, And he said a lot of cruel things that really hurt me. I know he is sorry and didn’t mean the things he said. Because he sent me flowers today.I got flowers today. It wasn’t our anniversary any other special day. Last night, he threw me into a wall and started to choke me.It seemed like a nightmare. I couldn’t believe it was real. I woke up this morning sore and bruised all over. I know he must be sorry. Because he sent me flowers today.I got flowers today, and it wasn’t Mother’s Day or any other special day. Last night, he beat me up again. And it was much worse than all the other times. If I leave him, what will I do? How will I take care of my kids? What about money? I’m afraid of him and scared to leave. But I know he must be sorry.Because he sent me flowers today.I got flowers today. Today was a very special day. It was the day of my funeral. Last night, he finally killed me. He beat me to death. If only I had gathered enough courage and strength to leave him, I would not have gotten flowers…today. By Paulette Kelly© Copyright 1992 Paulette Kelly All Rights Reserved
