From Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lufthansa_heist: "The Lufthansa heist was a robbery at John F. Kennedy International Airport on December 11, 1978. An estimated $5 million in cash ($18.1 million today) and $875,000 in jewelry ($3.2 million today) were stolen, making it at the time the largest cash robbery committed on American soil. The robbery was the subject of two television films, The 10 Million Dollar Getaway and The Big Heist, and is a key plot element in the 1990 film Goodfellas.
More importantly: "When Jimmy Burke realized that the robbery had netted $6 million, three times the amount that he expected, he knew that a robbery of this magnitude would attract the intense attention of the police at every level (local, state, and federal), causing a lot of problems for everyone involved as well as organized crime in New York in general. Burke became increasingly concerned that there were too many witnesses who knew of his involvement, and too many who became greedy once learning the true amount of money stolen in the heist.
“When Jimmy Burke realized that Edwards’ failure to properly dispose of the van had allowed the police to catch on to his crew, he resolved to kill anyone who could implicate him in the heist.”
@JonahHex—-But Jimmy may be one of the very few (now) that knows where the gold is hidden. I am sure the Blackhearts would want to know the location from Jimmy before he “departs” the scene. Question: How does anyone sell/dispose of that much gold without attracting major attention? Buyers of that amount would be very limited I would assume.
“I’ve heard that place has ties to the Blackhearts. Lets go, Sam” * . . .*
That’s TRACY Last Thursday (5-7-15), as he and Sam sped on to the 2nd Avenue Shooting . . .Imagine, as Doubleup did Sunday, he’s just repeating rumor ?
As things now stand, to the police - Jiimmy’s shooting (with robbery?) is in NO WAY currently connectedTo the GOLD heist, which has (for NOW) apparently been ‘dropped’ off Tracy’s RADAR
Interesting to See HOW up ahead, ‘evidence’ evolves to allow him to “connect” the Dots - ‘convincingly’ ?Will it be a Guess based on intuition(?) - or be factual ?
I’m a bit confused by Jimmy’s betting joints, but this is as much as I’ve figured out:
Blaze and Doubleup were sent to the first one (address not stated) and found that Slim was there and Corky (in charge) had been killed and Jimmy had run off.
They were told by BB-Eyes to get over to the place on Dugard St., run by Axelrod, fast, leaving Slim to secure the joint. I guess they never made it to Axelrod’s place. Maybe they had a police scanner, as I was speculating before and stopped instead at the second place on their way to Axelrod’s joint.
The second place was on or near 2nd St. (500 block, where shots were heard) and was run by Fontane. Fontane was shot and the police were already there when Doubleup and Blaze arrived. Doubleup went in to see if the police got Jimmy. Someone who looked identical to Slim seemed to be working there.
Tracy heard that another joint had been hit (Corky’s, I guess) and that Jimmy had been seen there. He and Sam went looking for a third joint.
Doubleup says that Axelrod is still alive (so far) and Jimmy has one more joint, on De Soto. I have no idea what happened to Dugard St., unless that was the first place, but Corky was in charge instead of Axelrod. As soon as Doubleup went in, he asked who was in charge today, so he didn’t automatically expect Axelrod to be in charge.
I think it’s a double fake out, if Jimmy has the gold (I don’t think it’s where everyone thinks it is, as we’ve been told it’s very hard to transport), he’s using it as insurance to get out of Dodge alive. I think the supposed site has been ‘salted’ and it will be hidden somewhere else along the replacement track. If Jimmy was set up, he’s grabbing cash and doing a D.B. Cooper.
As an aside, apart from the robbery risk, it was a really dumb idea for that “South American Country” to deposit their gold in the US. Other depositors (e.g. Germany) attempting to make withdrawals have been blown off – leading many to speculate that the US has embezzled all/most of the gold in Fort Knox.
Fortunate – ah say, FORtunately – for Doubleup, the writers have resisted turning his lilttle verbal quirk into a Foghorn Leghorn impersonation… carTOON, that is…
This bout of serial murder is bad for business because it stirs up the police.-———————————-Jimmy Choo Shooz is a spree killer, not a serial killer.Spree killers murder whenever they feel it’s necessary for their goals (like a robber killing someone to take their car).Serial killers usually stalk one type of victim, in one type of location, like a hunter (like Jack the Ripper).
There seems to be heavy traffic in the city (panel 3), so it may not be certain who will get to Axelrod’s bookie joint on DeSoto first, Blaze (driving cautiously) or Tracy and Sam in their patrol car (yesterday’s panel 3). It could be a practical tie, resulting in an interesting and potentially violent three- or even four-way confrontation (Tracy and Sam, Blaze and DoubleUp, Jimmy Choo Shooz, Axelrod). In the long run, crime does not pay. In the short run, crime does not pay….
I used to be one of the ones calling for Double-up’s demise; he seemed like nothing but a moron running around with a whip before……..but THIS Double-up – streetwise, intelligent, and with an actual personality, is totally cool…..great makeover, guys!
Following true to form, this is a perfect time to take off on a side story……. like Marty getting Spud a new scratching post. I’d even go for a side story about Blaze and her private life.
Yet Choo Shooze is very deliberate in who he kills and at the same time doing it serially. Not exactly a spree he is on.
I think this might have been a plan from the beginning.
April 6: Jimmy said, “I got is all planned out, with just a couple of details left to fill in.”“You got some inside dope on this, Jimmy?”Jimmy: “Heck yeah! Jimmy Choo Shooz never leaves anything to chance.”
Ironically, I think chance might be what trips him up if Tracy and Sam happen to get to Axelrod’s before Jimmy does.

@Morrow, "normalize"her? What moronic notion is this? She’s normal as it is, and Doubleup is not her type, anyway.
