Dick Tracy by Mike Curtis and Charles Ettinger for May 18, 2015

Mentioning the misspelling of “doesn’t” should, of course, be beneath us all considering the amount of words that have appeared in this strip since OUR Team Tracy took over. Now, with that petty little thing behind us, who would have thought that anyone (let alone Jimmy Choo Shooz) would have the guts to take on DoubleUp (AND with a lit cigar)? LOVE this story!

Jimmy has a lot at stake that is worth fighting for! I didn’t notice the spelling error, Shelley. Don’t let it concern you.

Doubleup’s holding that whip like Whip Wilson used to. Or was that Lash LeRue?

Great use of shadows today, and I like the retro looking Tracy profile in the 2nd panel.

A cigar to the face. I like the artwork and the use of shadow in the darkness today.

It should be noted that at “lights out” both Jimmy and Doubleup had their Hands UP in the air.Doubleup’s reach for the Whip was instinctive in the dark - as was Jimmy’s, to conceal the lighted tip of his cigar

Quick thinkers, these advisories . . . as everyone eyes adjusted for the near darkness . . .Jimmy the least equipped seemed most highly motivated to action the “thought’ of Millions$ in Gold clinking in his pockets . .Escape is imperative . . . if the Right Guys don’t Jail you The Left Ones will, and eventually Kill !

The one most likely to have turned out the lights is Axelrod (but we may never know) By NOW, in their business, he probably realizes he’s on a hit list and won’t hang aroundHe’s not safe with any of the three groupings,

It’s essential, that we recall (or read again), ‘conversations’ panels 5 and 6, Sunday page April 19 - between Jimmy and (the soon to be ‘dead’) Fontane !It implies where the Gold is, (around the Lake?) and that it’s been prepared and - "ready for shipment out of State !

Makes one wonder again, WHY Tracy never ‘followed up’ with a quick visit to the Lake ?

I think Tracy realizes there would be a connection between a string of killings and a theft as big as the gold shipment. It would ripple through the underworld.

Since Blaze doesn’t know what going on inside, unless Axelrod slipped outside as Tracy was coming in and knows who she is, I wonder if she’s even around?

no I don’t think blaze has hit the bricks just yet. My money is on it being blaze who killed the lights… and who’s to say that it WILL be doubleup’s whip that “cracks into action”?

I can see it now…… Blaze arrives with six pairs of handcuffs, two whips, a dozen mousetraps, a Batman uniform, and all attached to her utility belt, yelling, “LET’S PARTY!”

I agree, though I have to admit that Blaze is definitely “butch.” I don’t really think Blaze will abandon Doubleup. Maybe she still doesn’t like him too much, but she has a duty to fulfill for the Blackhearts. Depending on what happens next, she will have to decide whether it’s best to hightail it out of there.

The Blackhearts may want Jimmy Choo Shooz alive, but that doesn’t mean necessarily in perfect condition. His bold move to sting DoubleUp with a cigar-burn to the face will only serve to enrage the much bigger, more muscular and athletic enforcer and prod him (so to speak) into using his bullwhip. If Tracy and Sam don’t act quickly to save Jimmy’s skin, he is going to lose a lot of it!

But I CAN see the yellow trench coat and hat…

There were two men in the office when Jimmy arrived, Axelrod and the man in the engineer’s suit. When he opens the door on the 14th he doesn’t have gloves on. On Sunday he is wearing gloves. Still, he could have killed the lights.

Regarding the question of whether or not the hand that turned out the lights in the 5/17/15 strip is Blaze’s or not, here’s a look at the 5/17 hand:And here’s a shot of Blaze’s hand from the 5/15/15 strip:Blaze’s fingers are long and thin and, while the shading in the 5/17/15 strip partially obscures the fingers of the person flipping the switch, the fingers in that strip don’t look similar. So, the person who turned off the lights in the 5/17/15 strip isn’t likely to be Blaze. My guess would be Axelrod, as others have said here.

This has just taken a turn toward the violent. It looks like Tracy is right behind Jimmy and can probably see the light of the cigar. From a strategic standpoint this doesn’t seem like a good move. Now both Tracy and Double Up are close enough to get to Jimmy. He might’ve done better to lose the cigar and make a run for it while he still had cover of darkness.

Woo Gosh! What’s going to happen next?

Jimmy Choo needs to share a cell with Silver Nitrate. Then that cell could claim the lowest combined IQ in the prison system. There has gotta be some award for that.
