I think the key here (in Luann’s estimation) is that for her, whatever she does, she feels it has to be where Quill is. The summer camp gig in Pitts is awesome, and you (Lu) would be able to “fill your insides” with your experiences- but it doesn’t have Quill, there. Or she could be “lonely and bored”, waiting all day in NYC, but I guess to her, at least she’d be near Quill . I’d say, that she has come down with some sort of Qu-illness"…. – Though it’s not bad at all to want to be with “the one you love”. But 10 days isn’t too long. Plus, it’s assumed he’ll be back- he’s still slated to be at Moony U in the fall…

Luann probably thinks she’s choosing between two kinds of maturity – the maturity that comes with choosing and having a responsible job, and the “maturity” of a trip out of town with her boyfriend. Quill is mature enough to know there’s really only one choice here… and he will help Luann reach the same conclusion.

    Any other decision is futile.

Why hang around with children all day?I couldn’t take it!Don’t get caught up in a tough decision, Luann…Every moment with Quill is special!

Luann may see the trip to NY as a big step into adulthood. No parents around – no rules. In NY, Quill will get invited to lots of hip stuff after rehearsals. He’d better bring her along…

She should say yes to both. The NYC gig is only 10 days. If her family were going on vacation, or if she got sick, she would have the same issue with a summer job. She should talk to the principal about getting a substitute for those 10 days.

It would seem you are not alone in this frustration. Having Googled “Compaq Presario CQ62,” there are a few blog entries on this. Some offer a solution but I’m not sure they’d work properly. You can look over the blog entries, but be careful if you choose to try and execute one of the solutions.

_"Humans are not logical emotionless machines. Feelings are very important to us as a species. _^You misread me. I never was intending to suggest that Luann’s process of deliberating was immature, neither was I trying to suggest that listening to the heart is inferior to listening to the head!

If you look carefully at the summation of the things I’ve written (including my 2nd comment), you’d see that I was suggesting that perhaps Luann, being in a “struggle” between what she knows is the thing to do, and what she feels is the thing to do, should consider both the bigger picture as well as the smaller one, along with any future effects. -My thought was that she has since seemed to be able to spend a lot of time with Quill, and since the time apart for the summer is only 10 days away, and since she has the opportunity to finally see if she can narrow down her career choices and also engage in something she loves, that one choice may be better for the long run , and the other choice could potentially only be better for the “here and now”.

Plus, Humans are not logical, emotionless machines, no!!!! But… they’re also not logic-less, emotional only beings! There’s a balance between the two!! – It’s whether or not we have the ability to keep either in check (emotions, or logic) that is also a sign of maturity that can be considered, here… – Not to mention, some people are more “emotionally inclined” and some are more “logically inclined”. The “trick” in life is to learn to balance the two out, as much as possible. One who only goes by logic, would do well to learn more empathy and fellow feeling. And vice versa. That’s the sign of maturity in life. We all may get older, but age in itself doesn’t guarantee maturity_ . And maturity doesn’t always just mean “avoiding the juvenile”. It really means “getting better, and developing/improving more”, each day…and there’s no day where one can say: “I can’t get any better than this !”. We all have the opportunity to mature, each and every day…

I can’t believe that the archaic, destructive idea that women should jettison all opportunities to become a man’s helpless appendage while he gets to go off doing interesting things, pursuing his own opportunities, still haunts this unhappy world. If you truly love a man, you are going to develop yourself as much as you can so that he can have a real helpmate, and an interesting conversationalist, not a needy little pet with an atrophied brain.

On the other hand, using this opportunity as a springboard for adventure in general, without suffocating Quill in romantic obsessiveness, might be a motive worth considering. That much I’ll concede. But never the idea that Luann should lessen herself for romance.

(Says the woman happily married for 30 years to a man who wants a human being, not a playtoy.)

Probably, Luann will be paid a very minimal wage. This low pay would not be appropriate for a fully trained teacher. And, even though in many parts of the nations our public school teachers are paid NEAR subsistence wages only, I suspect what Luann would earn monetarily will be less than that. Our K-12 educators deserve a much higher rate of pay that what the lion’s share are paid. It is IMHO a terrible issue that shows some very wrong skewing of our society’s philosophies.

Presuming Luann is still seriously considering teaching as a career, she should take the principal’s offer and be the lead summer camp teacher. It will look really good on her resumé to have some teaching-related experience during her undergraduate years.

She lived without Quill’s physical presence for that whole time he was back in Australia, which was a lot longer than 10 days, so she can cope with him being in New York for that short a time. Plus she’ll have the summer camp kids to occupy her thought process much of the time.

A lot of the ‘real’ (as you describe them) teachers have to use their summer break to take continuing education classes that are required to maintain their teaching certifications. They are not reimbursed for those costs or paid to take the class, but can suffer a loss of credentials if they dont’ take them.

And a number of those ‘real’ teachers also accept higher paying second jobs during their summer break from K-12 teaching. Ever wonder who grades all those ‘Advanced Placement’ (AP) tests? Some are graded by K-12 teachers, some by college profs, and they get paid decently by the hour to do it.

And some of our neighbors who are teachers spend their summers working part time as tutors, making sure that the kids who had to spend their whole school year memorizing stuff for standardized tests also get a real education. And then the teachers work nights stocking shelves at ‘Publix’ grocery stores…
