This relationship won’t last another year. Greg Evans had already written Quill out of the strip by having him return to Australia, since the character is too shallow to do much with. Karen insisted on bringing him back just to show that boy-crazy Luann is in fact capable of maintaining a long-term commitment. Now that this has been demonstrated, Quill’s no long useful here, so it’s time for him to go explore career options in NYC with Prudence. Good luck on stage, and break a leg, Q-man!

Shallow, huh? His kindness with Gunther. With kids. His gift of the boomerang. His sense of humor and restraint of hormones. I like Quill. I don’t want Luann having to suffer a broken heart.

I can never out guess Greg, but I think this Love Boat has hit an iceberg.

I don’t know, I know a player when I see one. I hope I am not seeing one, I also don’t want to see Luann get hurt. hmmmm.

Uh Oh!! Are we being set up Greg? He wants the theater, she wants teaching, presumably meaning she will need to stay where she is to complete her education, and because she will be offered a job. And Dear Prudence awaits. And this is the end of this arc. Drama awaits.

Even though I’ve been convinced for awhile that this relationship is ending, I still feel like this is a sad way for this arc to end. Here was Luann, so excited that her guy was back in town, and hoping for a little ‘snuggle time’, and along comes Prudence…

Quill’s personality and behavior looks too good to be true. I’m not telling Quill in real life is impossible thing, but as with other ‘too good to be true’ things in life, usually there is a catch or issues hiding from a plain view.
He’ll be too boring to continue such a role in this comic. I guess Greg will dispatch him back to Oz and end this relationship.
Or Greg will reveal an issue Quill was hiding from us and Luann. I vote for this option, it would add a lot of drama and unexpected turns we all crave so much !
P.S. No I am not a welder, I am a moulder, and turner occasionally.

This romance seems to be getting much more physical, though without actual sex. That suggests that a crux is being reached, and Luann and Quill will very soon have to make a commitment or break it off. Can brother (Brad) and sister (Luann) both exist in a state of protracted engagement? Will someone at long last get married?
thebigboot about 9 years ago
Luann can’t handle females around Quill? Considering he wants to act for a living she’s either going to have to chill or break up.

I assume this story is going somewhere. They wouldn’t spend an entire week of nothing but Q and L making googly eyes at each other and then throw the name Prudence in there at the end of it if it didn’t mean something.

Of course the Prudence arc is important because Des’s cards said Prudence will determine their future. So far, it looks like Luann has no real jealousy – which shows maturity and trust on her part. Quill has not hidden anything from her (he had the perfect opportunity to NOT mention Prudence’s call if he were hiding a relationship). Until proven otherwise, I’m going to have to take Q and L’s relationship at face value – he’s excited about having her with him in NYC, and she’s comfortable with his acting, even when it involves other women.

Hard to say; we’ll probably get a lot more Warehouse, G+T, and B+T storylines in the next few weeks. Heck whatever happened to Puddles?
dlkrueger33 about 9 years ago
Maybe Luann can get a teaching job in NY. Or teach a theatre class.

And so it begins.
ironman01 about 9 years ago
In the scheme of things Quill is her high school boyfriend. How many people here, now be honest, think your high school romance was marriage material at 18?
Chuck374 about 9 years ago
As a matter of fact, you told Luann nothing about her, other than that the two of you were “paired”.
And as to seeing what Luann did; are we referring to the play on her name or not getting jealous that Quill is getting calls from her?
jenbrown1017 about 9 years ago
You all forget that the big warehouse project will need a college educated, experienced theater major to help run the show!!

What’s Quill’s last name again? MacGuffin?

I wonder how old Prudence is. Quill calls her a ‘girl’ so she must be around his age or younger. But kids that age do not call people on the phone. They text or communicate some other way. What possible reason would Prudence have for calling Q after the drama camp?

locake about 9 years ago
It would be much wiser for Luann to tell him to take her call. She could tell from the conversation what kind of relationship they have. It seems like Quill might have something to hide. If Q and P have no relationship he must be wondering why she is calling him. Since he isn’t eager to answer the phone he may have an idea why she is calling. And it is not something he wants Luann to hear.

It took forever to finally meet Dez, will the same thing happen with Miss Prudie?
keema70 about 9 years ago
I still think that Quill’s relationship with Prudence is strictly professional. Maybe she’s a younger girl who has a crush on him. Maybe she’s gay. And I still think that Greg is trying to make us THINK that Prudence is an 18-year-old hottie but I’ll be that she’s not that at all. Dez was probably right about prudence, not Prudence.
RSH about 9 years ago
I believe the whole New York thing was intended to test the strength of L and Q’s commitment to each other not to drive them apart. All the accompanying arcs and sub arcs support that. ‘prudence’ is as much of a concept as a real person all intended to help L grow out of her petty jealousies and “me only” attitude. As was said, Q has touched the lives of so many other characters. He’s too influential to be sent away.

I think the strip others have cited here where Luann is throwing basketballs through the hoops is pretty clearly intended to suggest that Quill and Luann are already “doing the euphemism”, and I’d be very surprised if they weren’t taking the sort of precautions you’d expect. They’re young, they’re in love, but neither one of them is that kind of stupid.
I think Dez’ reading of “prudence being a factor” in Luann’s decision whether to go to NY or not, is purely coincidental with the name of Quill’s theatre partner. That wasn’t the question Luann was asking when she got that answer.
Still, I have to wonder why Prudence needed to call Quill after the class was over and they’d both returned home. And, for that matter, why he let her go to voicemail instead of finding out if it was just a matter of a lost jacket or something. Did he have some reason for thinking she was going to bring up something he didn’t want to discuss in front of Luann?
I like Quill. I’m not unaware of his “Gary Stu” attributes, but I find it refreshing to have one character the same age as all the others, who’s not just a one-note buffoon. I enjoy watching the characters grow out of their predictable cartoon two-dimensionality. I don’t miss Knute, Phelps or Fogerty one bit.

yeah.. Rosa was probably easy to draw. They just took Toni and changed her hair color. But in the earlier strips Rosa looked different and had darker skin tone.

My two cents are that Prudence is an older woman who might be a mentor or teacher Quill met

Hey people! I’m a long time stalker, just signed up for forum. I signed up specifically so I can ask you guys, if you don’t mind, to describe to me how many of you are feeling the end of the relationship between Q and L. I am on the autistic spectrum and sometimes miss social cues. I am not getting the “oh they’re going to break up!” Vibe, so it would be helpful and interesting if anyone wants to explain the “clues” they are seeing.

Yeah, I can read. I get it.So what’s the insult then? Tiff made a snarky comparison of herself to Rosa.Jeesh. Just my opinion – one I am free to make.
Airman about 9 years ago
With one marriage on endless hold, Luann’s complicated romance/relationship, Rosa leading Gunther on, and then dumping him, Tiffany and Gunther realizing that their one night “moment” was a one time thing, we need something to cleanse our palates. Something real, something stunning, something like…………………Knute and Crystal, re-enter the picture: Married!!!!! and crazy happy.

Is it just me or are the characters being drawn somewhat differently now that they’re officially not jailbait?
