Iāve heard it said that the mind is the second thing to go. Canāt remember what the first thing was. Thatās how they take advantage of usā¦..weed out the weak.
I just read about a similar scam in the newspaper a couple days ago. Guy calls, says heās the grandson. Send money. Donāt tell mom & dad. This stuff really happens.
Waitā¦ I figured as computer illiterate as Earl is (he canāt even turn it on in the past), he would be the one to fall for the scam. Talk about a little role reversal.
I hope you all realize that the Nigerian Prince has immigrated to the US by now, I believe there is one in Canada too. I wonder if there are Somalian princes too?
Iāve had several calls where āBobā (from Mumbai) tells me heās from Microsoft and that Windows on my computer has been sending āerrorsā to them. He needs me to give him access to my computer so he can find the bug and fix it. He goes away when I tell him I have a Mac.
There are a couple of new scams out there. The first is a college kid who appears at your door with a clip board saying that someone will be here tomorrow from the Governorās office (California) to talk with you about his 33 1/3 Plan. (there is none). If you push back at all they donāt turn up the next day. The second is a phone call purporting to be from your cityās Water Dept. about someone coming out to your neighborhood the next day to sample your drinking water to make sure itās pure. My husband is associated with the Water Dept. and says itās bunk. Next time one of these guys brings me a deal like this Iām going to look interested, and if anyone shows up will take his picture & give it to the Police Department. (their idea)..
LOL! I came back to read the rest of the comments, and it reminded me of something my 24 year old son did not too long ago when āBobā called our house about our Windows program. āBobā (and that is the name he used, with the Indian accent). They told him to go to the computer, my son said sure, hold on, he set the phone down and left it for about 30 minutes. The idiot was still waiting for him. My son picked up the phone, called the guy and ahole, laughed and hung up! And come to think of it, āBobā has called since! Of course now we get the āwe want to compare your energy billā scam! But at least they speak English! LOL!
My mother couldnāt hear worth a darn; even with caller ID (which she claimed she didnāt know how to work!) she never knew who was on the phone, and didnāt seem to even try to hear them. She once told her pastor to Go to Hell, because she could figure out who he was.
But send that woman an appeal with a return envelope, and sheād send you money. When she broke her hip, my sister and I returned over 200 appeals for help. Some people sent her one a week, others would send requests under multiple names. Sheād get a plea from Save the Spiders, attn.Joe Blow, this week, and next week it would be Joe Blow, c/o Save the Spiders. Her absolute favorite was The Minuteman Foundation; she was convinced they marched along the Mexican border with guns. I looked them up on the Internet and found out that it was ONE woman, based in Georgia, and (oh, the horror!) she was a Republican. That was enough for my mom to cut her off, immediately.
MY favorite was ā dear Heavens ā a place called the Pig Protection Program. And yes, that is (or was) a real organization.
A police outfit called, asking for donations, yesterday. But, iād rather give to a Nigerian prince who is in trouble. The USA looks better around the world, that way.I think he needed the money for NYC parking tickets.
38lowellMost of those soliciting for police, state troopers, sheriff, etc. are real groups, and they do send the money to those law enforcement bodies ā average 5% for protection, and keep the rest.

OK, I take it back. Earl is not an insidious worm, I was just being an opportunistic joker. Truth is, Earl is more like me than I care to admit.

I picked up the following up from the FBI website. We need to report these scams not just delete them.
If you receive unsolicited e-mail offers or spam, you can forward the messages to the Federal Trade Commission at spam@uce.gov.
