I’m sure that Frank is delighted Nancy didn’t walk out of the house in that new wig, shoes and outfit… – And I guess Nancy is relieved that “Spleen Simmons” never was…

-I thought it was Frank’s midlife crisis, not Nancy’s. And the more typical response of a guy to a midlife crisis is usually buying a red Corvette and running off with a woman young enough to be his daughter, isn’t it? Maybe that’s the attraction of Pru for Frank…

A moment of mutual respect and love for Frank and Nancy. But will The Fuse live up to its promise, or will it turn into a money-sucking failure?

I wonder if they’ll regret their “dream” once Mr. Gray shows up to collect.

“Frank trying to convince Nancy they should do it…it’s his idea.”^I didn’t say it wasn’t his idea. – “However, since they are financially tied together, it is addressed as “we”, because Nancy has to say yes for it to happen.”^Yet, Nancy is the one Shannon pulls the arm of… and may I note: without any objection from Nancy. If she wasn’t on board with it, if she weren’t claiming it as her own as well, then she would have said (as I said, in my above posts), “It’s all Frank’s doing!”. If she didn’t want to invest in that, she wouldn’t have “went along with it”. She would have either objected, or proclaimed in protest, that she intended to “refuse her half” (i.e,., not a literal “half”, but a show of protest/objection, to which there would be a crisis of conflict in the household [which I’m pretty sure is your angle, any way you slice it]). – We’ve even had this discussion before, so….

I don’t get the whole story line about The Fuse. At least why the Evanses are lavishing so much time and energy and so many dei ex machina (I looked it up!) on a pet project of two secondary characters.

The gocomics blurb about the strip says that “LUANN is about the trials of becoming a young adult: the hilarity and drama, triumphs and flops, friendships and rivalries.” Not anymore. Actually, these days the title character does nothing but worry about losing her boyfriend. The Evanses need to come up with some ideas for her.

I agree that I would have preferred to see Luann college stories. Luann has been in college for a year and a half now, and yet not one of her fellow students has been identified by a real name (I don’t think “Mr. Jock” and “Mr. Goth” count as real names). In fact, the name of her college has never been mentioned. (People here usually call it “Pitts Junior College,” but that name has not actually appeared in the strip.)

It wasn’t costly. This multi-million dollar purchase and renovation required Frank to put up only $70K – of TJ’s money, not his. Even though nothing was mentioned about it at the time, some bank then apparently kicked in all the rest, just because that’s what banks always do. And as for hard work, Mr. Gray did all that for free, because that’s what friends do (and in this case, so do total strangers). And they got their opening show staged for free, because that’s what crazy show-business people always do, too. Life is good, is what I’m saying. Or scripting is poor, if you want to look at it that way…

Rosie O’Grady’s Good Time Emporium in Pensacola, Florida started out in a similar manner in 1967 and appears to still be flourishing.

.And old Cigar Factory in a mostly empty neighborhood was their venue. .

“Just clarifying that Nancy is in the sidecar with TJ. This is Frank’s idea, Frank’s midlife crisis, Frank’s baby, even if multiple people are financially invested.”^And yet, the pictures (along with the words) tell the complete story…. she’s made his dream her dream. -As I’ve expressed before, it doesn’t matter who has the idea first. It doesn’t matter who has the most money. When two or more people venture into a business together, they all have to be on board, or else take their share elsewhere. They each assume the risks, they each partake of the “glory”. You can clarify who invests what, or who has the idea first, but in the end, Nancy isn’t saying “it’s his dream”. She’s been saying: “It’s our dream”. That’s what the speech balloons have uttered, that’s what the pictures drawn have depicted. Not even getting “last words” in is changing that fact.

I would say the fact that she didn’t get a “full scholarship” would mean that her grades affected her getting into Moony (among the other factors), though it was initially one of the choices hinted at as a possible school for Luann (though Bernice was able to have the grades for her to get a “full ride”)… –

Eh, I wouldn’t go so far as to call it a “good message for everyone” as she’s been basically spinning her wheels for the past year and a half and is no closer to deciding what her focus will be. Perhaps she should try taking more than just the one art class…

“Perhaps she should try taking more than just the one art class…”Luanniverse may be caught in another time loop.In the real world, if Luann were planning to move beyond “Junior College” she should have already been considering & applying to transfer to a 4-year college. No sign of any such activity, and there’s been no sign of any class other than Zebo’s art class for quite some time. Luann may be wind up being in her first year of “Junior College” for quite some time.Or maybe she’ll just be working for Pru at The Fuse (for free, naturally) and obsessing about Quill, and her college studies will fade into the background.

    SPOILER ALERT

Info emerges about the mysterious Prudence. Will that info change Luann’s mind about her fears, or is the info intended to trick Luann into acceptance of ‘competition’?

Or maybe Luann will get a great job offer as a result of working with kids after school, and will head somewhere else altogether…

It’s wonderful when a couple can rest on their (and their kids’ and friends’) achievements, & laurels for a few moments, now and then. Hey, this goes well with the “try new things” theme of Sunday’s Calvin & Hobbes.
