Everybody really knows what Larry .enunciates (I laugh as I enter that word!), so how is it so many people don’t spend more time with their kids? Even if time is tight, there’s always a way, and it’s crucial.

My mother wanted to spend ALL her time with me and I felt smothered. I wanted her to go and play with her friends, but no, she wanted me to feel loved.I felt owned, and manacled.

My grandson went off to university this year, and he happily answers texts and even calls grandma and myself, as well as his parents.

There is a time when kids want, and need, to be with their parents. There is also a time when they want, and need, to break away from their parents and establish an independent identity for themselves. They’re going to need that as adults. I’m not saying it’s easy, but that is when parents need to know when to be present, when to be absent, and when to be available if called upon.

This leaves me feeling sympathetic for Larry’s grief at his son’s distant behavior; Too bad he wasn’t warmer and more respectful to him when he was younger.

Strips like this remind me why I love Pearls. They make you laugh, cry and think.

My 7 year old wanted cuddles when I was neck-deep in work and I kept telling him to wait. Then I was reminded by what my mom said about kids; get all those cuddles while you can because the minute they become teens you’ll never get cuddles again.
So now, I try to make time for him when he just wants to sit on my lap to hug and chat.

Yep. Nobody ever wrote on his epitaph: Wish I would’ve spent more time in the office and less time with my family.

I dunno, folks — seems to me that if all that kid knows how to say is “yap yap yap”, there must be something seriously wrong with him.
