Transcript:
Rat: What the heck happened here? Pig: I thought it'd be fun to build a dam across the creek in our backyard. But now I've flooded everything. Rat: What do you know about building dams? Pig: Nothing. Rat: You dam fool! Comic strip censor: You anger me to no end. Pig: This stupid dam thing.

Can we send the censor guy back to the 1950âs?

Did Pig get the idea from a do-it-yourself TV show called Dam Nation?

Waist deep in the big muddy and the big fool says to push on.

Take note, C.S.C., there was no N at the end of âdamâ like Rat and Pig said.

Such a great, multipurpose word:

That censor is the most irritated guy by a dam site.:Iâll stop now.

Life getting you down? Everyday troubles seem overwhelming? Do what I do. Take Damitolâ˘. It wonât make your problems disappear. You just wonât care anymore.

I wouldâve thought there would be a beaver âfloatingâ around here to complete the dam joke and really give the censor dude a reason to have a conniption fit.

I recently lost a credit card, and had to call to get a replacement. The customer service lady wanted to verify my last charge on the card, and she said âSir, I donât want to offend you, but the last charge on the card was at The Dam Liquor Store. Is that correct?â I informed her that the store was by a dam, and was indeed called The Dam Liquor Store. I found it quite sad that this would be thought of as something that would offend.

Tomorrow, Larry will be in the strip chasing Zeba neighbor who is trying to bust the dam. However, the backyard will remain flooded, because when you are up to your zebra in crocodiles, it is hard to remember the object was to drain the backyard.

Dam â a barrier constructed to hold back water and raise its level, the resulting reservoir being used in the generation of electricity or as a water supply.
Damn â be condemned by God to suffer eternal punishment in hell: be forever damned with Lucifer.⢠be doomed to misfortune or failure: the enterprise was damned.

I donât know why people think this censorship attitude comes from the â50s. There was an Edison short in 1905 called /The Whole Dam Family and the Dam Dog/ which begins by introducing Mr. I. B. Dam and the various members of his family, culminating with the family dog.

I love this dam strip.

It is nice to see that Rat and Pig are eminently successful at one thing in Life; viz., angering Comic Strip Censor-man!
Kaputnik almost 9 years ago
I wonder if Pastis actually meant âyou anger me no endâ. âYou anger me to no endâ also makes sense, but itâs not quite the same. And I remember saying âdamnâ being a big deal when I was a kid, but how many people care these days?
Linda Pearson almost 9 years ago
Most people donât even know the difference in spelling it.

I wondered how Spanish would deal with this. Word for word, remarkably. âDamâ in Spanish is ârepresa,â but it also means âblockage" or ârepression.â Evidently it can mean something like âconstipated.â The censor says âWith you, my anger has no limit.â Itâs not a common enough insult to show up on most lists.

I went down to the dam to get some dam water, But the dam people wouldnât let me have any dam water,so I told the dam people to keep the dam water.

I live in the town that built Hoover Dam. I live this pun daily.

My favorite pub was near a reservoir. It was the best bar by a dam site.

I always thought it odd one could say âdarnâ or âdangâ without affecting anybody when everyone knew it was a sand-in for the other word.
To that I say â**** itâ.

Reminds me of an episode of Jeopardy years ago â one of the categories was âI donât give a damâ. One lady kept saying "I donât give a dam for (insert amount here) Alex. He finally commented "You are really enjoying saying that!

In the original âPlanet of the Apes,â the studio censor allowed Charlton Hestonâs classic final line after it was pointed out that he was saying, âGod damn you all to hell!â (wishing that God would punish those who destroyed human civilization) as opposed to âGoddamn youâ (taking Godâs name in vain or turning it into a curse that some might find offensive).

there were times when pogo went âtoo farâ and papers would refuse to run the comic. walt kelly had âbunnyâ strips to replace the censored ones on these occasions.

Haâgood one. Iâm a counselor at a kidsâ camp every summer, and since the zip-line goes over the dam, we in my activity area (a different one) call itâyou guessed itâthe dam zip-line. This has also progressed into returning to that dam place, getting a dam sandwich for lunch, and being dam straight on remarks. (I could go on, but Iâll stop here.)
