I think it’s uncharacteristically creepy for Bernice to still be wearing the scarf some random guy left in her dorm all that time ago. (Not clear exactly how long ago, but the story certainly seems to have moved on)

She’s not even talking about Piro anymore, she’s just holding onto this weird talisman of an imaginary relationship.

Also, black and orange with black stripes? Is it somehow Halloween again in the Luanniverse?

I still maintain that this is a riff on “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”. Or as someone observed yesterday, babes in the [enchanted] woods. In that tale, A loved B who loved C who loved D who loved A… until the faerie folk placed a spell on all so that D loved C who loved B who loved A who loved D. Shall we their fond pageant see? Lord, what fools these mortals be! Or was that: Lord, what foods these morsels be?

Anyone else remember when Gunther and Bern WERE a couple (For a VERY brief time); Luann, who was still into Aaron Hill, stole Gunther from Bern, apparently, because she felt he was hers, even when she didn’t want him, herself! (Will history repeat itself?)

Does Gunther know whether he is looking for a girl friend or a friend that happens to be a girl? No problem is he prefers the old Bernice. A trip to New York, no matter how stunning, will not change her underlying character, which would require deep psychological work.

Bernice has such delusions of how things will be in NYC. But I guess any young girl does about NYC for the first time. It’s a great city, exciting and fun, don’t get me wrong, but sometimes can be a let-down from high expectations, whatever those may be. She will definitely come home changed in some way for the experience. And that’s likely to be a good thing.

OT: i keep forgetting to ask this. I am curious if Dog has read this yet? Others will be interested but this seems like something Dog and NG woukd especially like. Recommendation for adult lovers of cartoons who have not yet read the book (not one for kids):Thrilling Adventures of Lovelace and Babbage, the (Mostly) True Story of the First Computer by Sydney Padua, Pantheon, 2015. The first 28 pages of catoons and footnotes often hilariously document the actual history. Because the footnotes are great, great, great it pays strongly to get the print version because there have been complaints about difficulty reading the footnotes in the online version. (The hardback does not have pages which glare; i do not know if there is a softback or anything about it.) After those first pages are alternative history cartoons. So, anyway, a heads up for you!

Maybe Gunther will snap about Tiffany while Bern is in New York. It’s a whole week that she’ll be away and the two of them so far have been left in Moony together. Could also be the start of a Leslie arch for a week and then the return of Lu and Bern the next week to the mess that was caused. I think Gunther’s “never mind” is his slow realization that maybe Bern isn’t in to him.

5The potential ways I see this arc moving are either a) Bernie hurts Gunther’s feelings again by giving him “hope” of a relationship and then pulls the proverbial rug out from under him so he gets surly, b) somehow the sparks do fly and Bernie jumps into a relationship with Gunther. I am hoping that both of my arc predictions are wrong. I do not actually like either scenario. But, one of the two above seems likely.I have been trying to figure out a way for Bernie and Gunther to just remain friends and not have hurt feelings end up occurring for Gunther, but I have not been able to imagine an easy, logical fashion for this to happen. But, it would be very nice if it were to happen that way.

They should change the name of this comic strip to glacier. This way the title can denote the speed in which the story arcs move.

I wish the “surly aspect” of G was used as a springboard to take action when is needed, and not used OFTEN as a springboard for him to act unjustly and harshly toward people around him, sometimes he comes across as a “subtle bully” that might be likely in the future with whoever he marries to be talked to by police for “domestic dispute” calls
