Yup, this doesn’t look like it will end well for the safecracker.

At least there really is money in there, but I have a feeling they won’t be walking away with it.

Ironic that the guy with the blowtorch has “BOMBERo” printed on his back. (Yes, I know it actually means “fireman.”)

It doesn’t seem like a wise way to protect your money. The money will be blown up along with the safe cracker.

TNT as old as this hidden safe is supposed to be would be sweating Nitroglycerin and extremely unstable.

DY-NO-MITE! So much dynamite! So old and inert? And so much money! What a discovery; what a loss if that old explosive detonatesthe Gweedo Way!

Not to nit-pick, but TNT doesn’t become inert.- it becomes unstable. Over time sticks of dynamite will “weep” or “sweat” nitroglycerin, which can then pool in the bottom of the box or storage area. Crystals will form on the outside of the sticks causing them to be even more shock, friction, and temperature sensitive.

    Ka-blooey…or is it FLOOM!?

Handled carefully the TNT could be removed, however that is a two-man job and there is only one there. As he was not prepared for this situation I don’t see it ending well for him. A problem with the glasses or a purposeful omittance of information on Specs part?

So why didn’t Specs see all the rigged explosives when he found the treasure vault? Seems like a huge plot hole to me.

In addendum, to the safecracker, since we’re on the classic WB cartoon running-gag theme:

Hey, if all those bills have been there for 50-60 years, would they still be worth their face value? They were likely silver certificates, which the US stopped issuing a long time ago (I think).Either way, they look like they’re about to become confetti!

It does seem strange that the original owner of the safe put explosives right in with his treasure – unless he had an attitude of “If I can’t have it, nobody else can either!”This has been done sometimes before. There was an episode in Season One of Walt Disney’s Zorro, where California Native Americans had discovered gold long before the gold rush, but they rigged up a landslide, so that if the White Man ever found their mine, they would close it up forever, thus denying access to the gold. Zorro, who knew about it, said to Bernardo, “It will be a long time, before gold is discovered in California!”I also have problems with Specs seeing the safe, but not its contents. Maybe we’ll find out more about that later.

@JPuzzleWizThey could have been recently installed.

On March 11, we were told that the location of the vault was a secret that Ferdinand took with him to his grave. It’s extremely likely that both the TNT and the cash dates back to the ‘50s and that no-one has touched it since it was first put in there. If no-one knew the location of the vault and it was hidden behind a solid wall in an operating casino, I don’t see how the explosives could have been recently installed.
