I had my tonsils out when I was very young (kindergarten maybe?) Back then that was an overnight hospital stay. A nurse came in and was very friendly (though I didn’t get ginger ale and ice cream until afterwards), then she had me roll over, which I naively did, she said “Here’s your little oucher!” and stabbed me in the butt!
When I was a little kid, just after coming to America i got some sort of infection that hospitalized me. I had to have shots in the back side every few hours. So a small child, in a foreign land where people spoke funny with all my friends and most of my family thousands of miles away and THAT? To this day, I’ve set my own bones, been shot, have a few scars i don’t even know how i got and the body is defiantly no longer on spect, BUT a tiny little needle still scares the crap out of me.
When I was 8 years old, I was in an accident. I spent nearly a month in the hospital and they debated whether I would ever be able to walk normally again. I had a shot in my butt once every two hours. One of the shots was for pain, they didn’t have a drip back then, I don’t think. Any way, they tried to inject in one side and then another, but after a few days it didn’t matter, it hurt. It was the only time that I saw nurses cry when the gave a shot. I remember the first time I got out of bed. The nurses told me just to stay seated and I of course got up and decided to walk. The next thing I knew was that I was on my hurting backside and nurses running to make sure I was alright. I was. Then they removed all my stitches, around two hundred. That was also an interesting experience.
I had pneumonia in April of 2017 which resulted in a 3 day hospital stay and this past December had a bicycle accident which ended up with a 7 day stay for a hip replacement. Those experiences lead me to say that nurses rule.
Had that kind of shot once. My first thought was, “That is not a needle. That is a pipe!” The nurse said, “I’m really sorry, but this is going to hurt. A lot!” Went home, but was out of school for 6 weeks.
I recently spent two nights in a certain hospital in Queens. When my uncle, a former cop, found out which one, he told me the scuttlebutt on the force was that if you took a bullet and saw the driver approaching that hospital, you should yell, “KEEP GOING!!!!!”
Needles actually don’t bother me. When I give blood, I watch them stick the needle in. When I was in high school, I cut my leg and had to go to the ER. When the doctor got ready to stitch me up I asked the nurse for a pillow. She asked me if I was feeling faint. She was surprised when I said, no I want to sit up and watch.

The question I have is, is that syringe putting something in or taking something out?
