I feel the same way sometimes, and not just for the editing.

Back then, it would also have been “formatted to fit your screen.” Meaning that if we saw two people talking, we never saw both at the same time. I’m so glad widescreen took over.

The TV is the messenger of bad news. You need to go to the studio and discuss this with the editors.

Destroying your TV isn’t going to make anything better, unfortunately.

Need those commercials which take up more and more chunks of time in a show. Soon an hour show will be 30 minutes long. It is about 42 minutes now.

Mostly to make time for advertising. A 2-hour time slot for a movie had at least a half hour of ads. If it was a 2 hour film 30 minutes of it would be cut out, regardless of the effect on the story, plotline, etc.

One of my favorite Peanuts has Linus sitting in a beanbag watching TV and the 2nd panel declares “We will be right back after these important announcements” 3rd panel Linus is sitting bolt upright pointing at the Tv and loudly declaring “YOU LIE!”

I saw an “editted for television” version of Blazing Saddles which I figured could not be done. I was pretty much right. Some of the best gags made no sense because of the editting. It was a real travesty. I’m sure Mel had no say-so in how this movie was cut (butchered) for television.

And this is a perfect example of how Berke can draw (literally) four panels of laughs out of a two-panel joke.
