It looks like Shelley got the week off. This looks like Joe’s brushwork. (The fact that GoComics is behind on their colouring is totally unrelated, I’m sure.)
Notta knows her game and is playing it safe. She wants Blaze to do the dirty work. Notta’s mind is really working even under stress.Knowing that she has not directly killed anyone, Blaze is not willing to start now especially with the deal she had with Tracy. Notta is now like a volcano that is about to erupt.
@fredville, I know what you mean! First Blaze warns Tracy that Notta has a gun, and now she has the perfect opportunity to disarm Notta. And she turns it down??! Actually, I could see a person doing that in the heat of the moment due to thinking, “If I take the gun it means I’m agreeing to help Notta,” which she doesn’t want to do. And if she did get the gun, the dramatic tension would drain out of upcoming installments. Notta needs to have that gun, at least for now.
You are on to something, sir. If Notta finds out that Blaze led Tracy and Lizz to her doorstep, I would bet money she will try to use the gun against Blaze.
I’m sure Notta has more than one gun.Besides, the gun might not be loaded, either to test Blaze, or to set her up as a sitting duck for Tracy while Notta scrams.Still, it might be good to take it, and smack Notta on the noggin, returning the favor.
Blaze could have taken “this” and simply gone right out the back and stayed out while Notta does her one woman shootout.
Yes, she could have, but I think the reason she’s involved in this raid at all is to protect Purdy, who she’s been looking after all this time. As Tracy said to Lizz yesterday, “Let’s go in! and keep an eye out for Purdy.” Purdy could be in danger and I think Blaze wants to make sure he’s not. If she just left, Purdy would not have her looking out for him.
This is not the time or place for Blaze to become suddenly assertive! She should have taken the gun (which I am sure is only Notta’s back-up piece, a mere purse-gun; Notta must still have her primary weapon) and gone ’round back. Blaze need not use the gun at all (though she would be wise to check that it is loaded in case it were needed for self-defense against Notta). Just get it and herself away from the bearded baddie, without picking a fight! Is Blaze feeling suicidal?
ANd herein lies Blaze’s downfall. If she were smart, she would have taken the gun and indeed “went around back” but instead use the gun to keep NOTTA in check for Tracy and Lizz (wonder why Sam isn’t there? youd think that collaring a big cog in the wheel of crime would require more than just TWO detectives, even tho one is the chief of detectives).
I don’t see blaze escaping from this one unscathed… maybe even not alive!
Even if she does turn on Notta and helps Tracy arrest her, Notta gets her legal one call and you KNOW its gonna be to bribery… and she’d spill the beans on Blaze associating with the cops.. unless they pull something off where tracy… much like with t-bolt… “pretend apprehends” Blaze and doesn’t inform Notta on the turn… but it seems Blaze has already done that.. or is just about to!
This may not end well for Ms. Rise. The ONLY thing that can save her is if she doesn’t “turn on NOtta” but allows her to be captured and does a “behind the scenes informant” type thing for tracy… the fake arrest, her getting out via mr kleen and getting back into Bribery’s good graces to feed more info to tracy
Blaze is wise to refuse the gun. She missed Flakey at point-blank range. Flakey died of a heart attack, rendering Blaze redeemable. Should she survive, Blaze will remain a good recurring character. As long as Notta lives I’ll be pleased. More two-panel goodness today. I like the outside/inside split. More of the good stuff from Team Tracy.
In case anyone is missing the color. I typically prefer the gocomics coloring jobs, but I think Comics Kingdom did a good job with this one. The best thing is that they didn’t give Notta green hair!
You’re forgetting one important thing. You never want to be armed when the police charge in. Sure, Tracy and Lizz know that Blaze is aiding the police, but I doubt all of the cops (at the back door or on their way) do. If they bust in while Notta is firing at them and see someone else with a gun, they’re going to shoot Blaze. This is why the NRA’s “good-guy with a gun” is pure fallacy. Cops are trained to take down any and all armed people so you are best to remain unarmed just like the one guy in the last school shooting said.
Blaze “missed Flakey at close range”? She missed 6 freaking times??? No, this whole she missed and Flakey had a heart attack was, sorry, a pretty lame attempt to “convert” Blaze to a “good” character. And if she had a heart attack, why would Blaze act so surprised, since she had to have witnessed it? I think a better alternative would have been for Blaze to have beaten the crap out of Flakey, and threatened to do more if she reported it…
She may not want to be caught with an illegal gun or worse, get into a situation where she has to fire at the police. She’s thinking of her future dealings with Tracy and the PD.

I suppose she wants Blaze to sneak around from the back door and shoot Tracy in the back. Understandably, Blaze is not willing to do that.

is she NUTS? The gun is her ticket to safety….and she GIVES IT BACK to the criminal?

Jim beat me to it while I was writing that last comment. Well, at least that’s two of us who think Notta might have two guns.
