Now will Rikki sell out Bribery? Or can Bribery get to her in the jail? The fact he didn’t want her to survive to be arrested tells me he doesn’t have a way to get to her.

He tried to arrest LT Teevo but was knocked down. But are Joe and Mike sure it’s his first? It’s a long time since 1949! Ok, chiefs are suppose to command and organize, not to arrest, so it’s possible. Also, I suspect that without criminal ex machina MATTY SQUARED Pat would have had it!

Huzzah! Raise a toast to Patton. The strip rarely, if ever, shows plea negotiations, so we’re not likely to be privy to the questioning of Rikki. She does not strike me as a blabber mouth, and this wasn’t a hit for pay. In any event, she doesn’t know Bribery’s location. I’d wager that if we ever see Rikki again she will be in jail pining for dear (departed?) Abner.

All the excitement has caught up with Pat, he’s holding his paper backwards!

If he were able to be presented in a police line-up, she could probably identify him.Um…that might be kind of hard to do…

When Chester Gould promoted Pat to Chief in 1949, it was interesting to see that as Chief Patton, he continued to be very active. He could be seen at crime scenes, or after an arrest had taken place, he would be on the scene going over details with Tracy and Sam. When either Tracy or Sam was in one of the jams they continued to get into, Chief Patton was right on the scene, directing rescue operations. This continued to be standard operating procedure at least through 1963, where the latest IDW book ends. I’m guessing it continued all the way through Gould’s time on the strip.

The Chief of Police is too high in rank to go out on the street. Patton was bucking that to keep sharp. This time it worked, with the help of Mr. Bribery. I wonder if their tech people will find any trace of his program….?

As for whether or not Rikki will sing—I’d say it depends on her frame of mind as she cools off in stir, and who she sees as the one or ones responsible for her incarceration and the loss of her Vampire Mechanique….
