I wonder how Ma Berger could tell.

I don’t think Quill feels bad enough. Luann should have kicked him in the nuts when he was walking away.

hahahaha THAT cut like a knife… ok Luann, now TWIST that knife, let him catch you and Gunther kissing!!!!

@Mikeyj
Couldn’t get the response thing to work.
I don’t really think Quill is hurt, just embarassed because he automatically assumed that Luann was there to ask him to take her back.
And not only is Luann NOT interested in Gunther that way, I don’t see her as the vindictive type who would twist a knife in an ex by letting him see her with a new guy.
She just finally realized that the two of them were going in different directions, and she’s trying to ‘have a life’, like he said.
gazperson about 8 years ago
Well, my interpretation of that is the Quill knew perfectly well that Gunther’s work was the subject of Luann’s enquiry, and his response was a joke — as was his “slink away” crack. I think his quick sense of humour was one of the things that attracted Luann to Quill in the first place, but there is certainly no indication in today’s sequence that the relationship is about to be rekindled.

I like the idea of Gunther and Luann. They belong in each other’s lives. Now Quill, not so much. I really do hope Luann and Gunther wind up together at the end.

Interesting to see how each party is handling the break up. Some better than others it seems.

Good GRIEF, Lu!
Gunther just STARTED on That Stupid Dress and ALREADY You want a “Progress Report??”
And YOU, Pretty Boy?
YOU, Sir, are NOT “Groveling” enough to Win Luann Back.
Airman about 8 years ago
Frustrating. Luann has her own personal elf back , plaid shirt, collar buttoned up, sewing her a dress. This is like being in a maze with no way out. Gunther!!! Get up and go over to Tiffany’s dorm. You two can go out, then come back and make out. And, don’t come home any too soon. And, get rid of that stupid shirt.

Thanks, Jay. That helped. Wasn’t she a neighbor who moved away before Brad figured anything out?

Quill still has a bit of ego. I’m surprised the Australian stud hasn’t moved on to another girl yet. I get the feeling they may reconcile some day. Oh, I hope not.
Peabody429 about 8 years ago
A few things here: 1. Quill’s comment was sarcastic; 2. Lu (and her snarky face) did not appreciate the sarcasm; 3. I know that this is Lu’s strip, but I’m on Quill’s side on this one, he’s better without her, plus he can do better.
OneTime59 about 8 years ago
Not sure whether, or not Quill was seriously being egotistical here, or simply making a pun.

Again, WHY is Quill there? At this point he should have moved out to his own place. He’s been there what, a year? Two years? He should at least get a dorm room. He did a touring show so he ought to have some money.

people that age are behaving very maturely if they refrain from emotional commitments with people whose goals would be impossible for them to support. Luann wants a quiet, secure family life, Quinn wants the excitement of the stage life. You have to balance ‘love/passion’ with life goals and be willing to compromise a bit.

What an egotistical A-hole Q-ball is! Assuming she came to see HIM and beg HIM to take her back! JERK!!

Hopefully, this will give Qu the incentive to start a relationship with someone else. Now if the “someone else” is an acquaintance of Lu (such as Tiff), imagine how she will have to deal with her competititive juices.

Quill’s attempts at acting are transparent to me. And those subtle digs at Gunther yesterday weren’t pleasant to watch.
Luanaphile about 8 years ago
I don’t have a problem with how things are going. Puzzled by some of the comments. Some awkwardness is to be expected, and it would be implausible for anything else to happen. Even more implausible for these two to get back together. Second, Luann and Gunther have a common interest, which doesn’t seem to be romantic. Neither is using the other. Thirdly, for Gunther to run over to Tiffany and aggressively woo her, would be WAY out of character and poorly motivated. Pain is unavoidable; do we deal with it honestly, like Luann, or move into denial/neurosis?

5To me, today’s effort was a bit awkward language-wise, but I think that was done to try to infuse the “punchline” into the panels… but here is how I interpret things: 1. I believe Quill’s “I’m good, thanks. You?” was meant by Quill to be a foolish and silly joke to tease Luann. I feel Quill obviously knew that Luann was at the Berger’s to check out how Gunther was proceeding with the dress. 2. I think Quill’s foolish and silly joke actually backfired for him because Luann did not take his statement as a joke but as being serious….. or perhaps Luann realized it was a joke…. but was not really feeling like acting in a “joking” fashion with Quill and so she responded in a non-joking, deadpan sort of fashion to basically tell Quill to “buzz off”.3. Quill’s response back to Luann about slinking off suggests to me that he was either a) hurt by the comment, or b) simply realized that Luann wasn’t in a “joking” kind of mood. It doesn’t really matter which way he was thinking about it. It only mattered that he exited the conversation.4. For me, I am restating again that I sincerely hope that this is not some sort of introduction to the two of them (Quill & Luann) getting back together in a romantic fashion. It has a bit of a feel of some of the romantic comedy films where in the end the two folks eventually get back together. I hope this is not the path Greg is leading us on. 5. I still also fear that Gunther will not succeed in his engineering project with a dress, and I also think it is seemingly that Luann is sort of being “hands-off” to a degree with the actual construction of the dress. I would think for it to be her art project, she would need to have more hands-on aspects of the construction herself and that Gunther would be more of a guide or helper… not the actual manufacture. So, I am also fearful that Luann will not do well in her art project because of her seeming lack of hands-on participation.

Here is another possibility:
Could Luann use Gunther to try to make Quill jealous? Why should Quill have to slink away at his home? Breaking up with Luann does not make him a jerk. The relationship ran its course.

Louann should have grabbed Quil’s “package”, gave it a really HARD squeeze and “Cracked his walnuts” !!!

This comment is specifically for Argy and is in reply to his comment to me later in the day yesterday:Argy states: , I don’t really thing Mrs. Berger is teasing Quill the same way Quill is teasing Gunther. Mrs. Berger is suggesting that Quill would be an appropriate person to talk about succumbing to Luann’s ‘mojo’ (not that I agree for a minute that Luann is that manipulative kind of female that this suggests).I can see how Quill’s action could be viewed the way you suggest.. However, for me, the way it read it was that the use of the word “mojo” was done in a teasing, over-the-top sort of way. To me, “mojo” is some sort of theoretical magic spell a person could exert. In the way I viewed the phrase, I think both Quill and Gunther know that “mojo” is silly as a concept, so that is why I was thinking Quill was just joking around. Argy also stated: I don’t think Quill even heard what Mrs. Berger said. He is much more intent on badgering Gunther for being “weak” and giving in to Luann.Again, I can understand the perspective you are suggesting in the above. But, to me, it didn’t really feel like badgering so much as fairly typical teasing that occurs between friends. I have a friend I have known since I was 6 years old, and he very frequently and teases me in that sort of fashion. My own personality is more introverted like Gunther, so I do not tend to ever tease like that back myself, but, to me that sort of banter and teasing is fairly common.Argy also stated: You (meaning me, PipeTobacco) state that Quill has a facially happy expression. With his eyebrows drawn the way they are, my (meaning Argy) impression was not that Quill was happy, but that he was mockingy laughing at Gunther. And Gunther heard something in Quill’s tone of voice that he did not like, which may explain Gunther’s angry reaction.Again, sir, you may very well be right in that assessment, I cannot deny that is one way to interpret the actions and expressions yesterday. However. I guess for me, having a friend who behaves much like Quill was behaving yesterday has me view his actions a bit differently…. like I view the actions of my friend in his similar behavior.

Quill knows that Gunther is working with Luann on a dress. It doesn’t make any sense for Q to think Luann is there to see him.

I agree with several others here, Q was trying to make a joke, and it did not go over very well. I don’t think Q or Luann want to get back together.

He was making a joke! She didn’t bite, so he felt awkward and backed off. One remark made too fast a hundred panels ago doesn’t doom him. You just wait and see.

Question: Can you ever really go to “friendship” after a romance? I’ve never gotten past “awkward” after a breakup.
Airman about 8 years ago
Year after year, and I grow impatient. Everyone says this is a “family strip”, but can’t Gunther, Tiffany, and Bernice all share an intimate moment, even a hug with someone? Tiff and Gunther came close, and their friendship is actually kind of cute. Must Greg make all of his characters unhappy losers? That’s not real. Maybe Greg is the sad one projecting himself into his paper puppets. Excuse me, Dr. Freud, there I go again.

Does Quill have room for redemption? Does Luann care even if he does? I am trying hard not to get into a dislike situation with Quill, as some of use are prone to do with various characters, after all I am an optimistic Trufan, and there are characters that we can dislike validly, such as Dirk, or Leslie. But GE seems to believe in redemption, so Dirk redeemed himself, or at least changed in a good way, TJ is showing a caring side to his con guy character (comes in real handy at certain times), so Quill is showing his somewhat dismissive, sarcastic side, but shrinks when around Luann. To conclude: I think he can show redemption, but I don’t think Luann will care. She will move on, and so will he. Of course I could be wrong, but I doubt very highly that they will get back together. By the way does Leslie have redemptive qualities? Hmmmm.

I think it would be off the wall fantastic if Mom and Dad Degroot were able to see both of their kids married on the same day in a double wedding. Yes, I know…“It’s impossible” da, da, da. But it would really ramp up the comments section, wouldn’t it?For sure!
Airman about 8 years ago
Only Tiffany did something for Gunther because she thought it would make him happy. Luann treats him like a T.V. Turn him on when she wants something, then turn him off when she’s done with her “program”. What would happen if Gunther asked Luann to come over and wash his car?

A little off the track here – I love apples. Tart ones like the “Granny Smith” variety, and even a variety that is usually used in cooking, the “Gravenstein”. A few years ago, i found a very strong contender called “Pink Lady”. They are excellent. Tonight, I was at the farmer’s market and they had a variety I had never seen before. They are a very pale ghostly – yellow and are called “Aurora”. I did not expect much, but they looked interesting enough to try. The guy cut one for us to taste, and I was blown away by the flavor. They are fairly large apples, but are not pathy in texture. If anyone here really likes apples, see if you can find them in your local area. I don’t think you will be disappointed..
