Reminds me of the Queen of Deep-Fried, Paula Dean, waiting until she had an endorsement deal with a pharmaceutical company before going public with her diabetes.

Reminds me of a fast-food chain in the 80s called something like D-Lites or D’Lites. They featured low-fat, whole-grain burgers and such. I liked the place; the food tasted surprisingly good! But, as depicted in today’s strip, it went out of business fairly quickly.

Looks like what the press is feeding the public and the way most are getting their info. Healthy, i.e., reasonable thought dies on the vine.

It’s like they just want to enjoy life and don’t care if they lose a few years in the process. Can the quantity vs. quality wars be back?

When you don’t eat out often, you want it to taste good. Nothing wrong with that.

If the food was fried in real lard and tallow like it used to be, instead of the corn and soy derived abominations that some credentialed idiots told people were healthy, we’d have much less of a problem. Skip the giant cup of Chemi-Cola too.

Here in SoCal the latest craze is Poke, which is fairly healthy if you choose well. These are popping up almost as quickly as taco trucks.

Some years ago my wife and I traveled through the deep south, and were amazed that every gas station served fried crap.

This actually happened in my town…the healthy place is now an auto parts store, but Pandas and Popeyes have replaced it and are doing well, I hear. Thank goodness for Panera. May she live long and prosper.

There was one vegan restaurant in Las Vegas when I lived there. The owners seemed to hate food and people who liked food. I was dating a vegan at the time and after one visit, she refused to go back.

There needs to be balance. When growing up, we had equal portions of meat, veggies and potato. I still follow that generally. (Ooops – had a bacon cheeseburger and fries for supper tonight.)

I worked at McDonald’s when they bowed to pressure and dropped chocolate and vanilla softserve, and replaced it with orange sorbet and frozen yogurt. I could barely taste the difference with the vanilla, but the customers were not happy. Luckily I was not working there when they replaced the McDLT with seaweed burger.

They still serve health food. Potato is a vegetable, right?

Recent investigations are showing how the sugar industry has propagandized us to reject fats, and replace those with more sugar to get a little flavor. The Omega-3 fats in grass-fed beef, butter, etc. are great, but feedlots result in Omega-6, not so healthy. ‘Queen of Fats’ for more info.

Ya know, when I go out to eat it’s about flavor and a treat, not everyday nutrition.. Would rather get a doggy bag then still feel hungry after paying for a meal. :D

Anybody ever go to a Golden Corral restaurant? All you can eat everything! Buffet style. Bottomless fries, soda, fatty meats, etc. All the pre-diabetes people flock there! When a new platter of meat is brought out it’s a veritable stampede to the buffet table! Not for the weak of heart – literally!

Our bodies crave fat, salt and sugar which we are driven to consume. In the wilds of the Pleistocene all three were in short supply. Now in the Anthropocene it is too easy to come by and on average consume an average of 47 lbs a year.

I worry more about the government telling me what I have to eat. If I make bad choices I will live with the consequence.
