Marigold is better at Dadaist humour than Llewellyn was in Ozy and Millie.

What if there was a story arc in which Marigold casts a water-breathing spell, and they go on an adventure involving underwater mythical creatures, like krakens?

Is this a “The Last Unicorn” reference?

There’s something fishy about this comic.

    For unicorns, tedious equals terrifying.

So THAT’S where Peter Beagle got his idea from. Bah, we thought he was an original creator and it turns out he’s the Brother Grimm of unicorn folklore.

Was in that legend a Red Bull involved?

Seems that unicorns are plagued by fanciful stories. Though I bet this one was to protect unicorns from being dragged into the sea and drowning.

Either all the above, or a reference to “The Little White Horse” by Elizabeth Goudge.

Oooohhh, I LOVE the sea setting! I’ve seen the friendly beach of my childhood, on a bay of the Atlantic, after a fierce storm. Dark gray with storm clouds virtually sitting on it, whipped into white-capped waves and deep troughs, tossing angrily and moving at an angle I’d never seen before. It seemed to be screaming, “GO AWAY; DO NOT TOUCH ME!” Scared the bejabbers out of me! Nearly 60 years ago and the memory is as vivid as today’s news.

I find it interesting that there are shades of “The Last Unicorn” here, because the author of that story, Peter S. Beagle, also wrote the forward to the first Heavenly Nostrils chronicle book, the title of which is now the title of this strip.

In ancient Irish legend, whitecaps were called the “steeds of Managuan”. in Greek mythology, the first horse was brought out of the sea by Poseidon.

Perhaps Mr. Beagle had this lore in mind. 7@=e

The circle panels of Marigold would be perfect for her profile shot if she was a playable character in a Traveler’s Tale LEGO® video game.
