Good morning, wondering if I had really shucked my Pro skin, Vista Bill and all the rest of us commiserating Sam’s misfortune with his wife, sympathizers !
Congratulations to Jim in CT who was the first to figure out that Sam’s wife was very ill: “Considering the look of sympathy Pat is giving him, I’d suspect his wife is very ill.” Apparently, yesterday’s strip wasn’t too much of a mystery to some!
Several of you figured out a long time ago that the FBI would have to be involved. The new information today that I was somewhat surprised at was that Bellowthon had refused the police department’s security. Tracy didn’t want to provide it anyway, for obvious reasons. Conflict of interest or not, the police department certainly can’t be blamed for her death.
I just had a scare. Looked like I might have prostate cancer but they say I am ok. (0-4 normal. I am 9.96 on PSA. Letter that came said Abnormal) I can sympathize with Sam.
@Sportymonk, I really feel for you. I had a prostate scare as well, with an elevated PSA. Ultrasound and MRI showed enlargement but nothing really abnormal, but there are several possible causes other than cancer, and my PSA has since dropped back to normal range. All of you 40+ gentlemen should get your PSA tested – it’s better to know and deal with it than take a chance.
I see Fritz Ann coming in on this, but vis-a-vis Sam (and Mrs. Sam) more of a “fierce friend” than an opportunist — at least, as she’s been written so far, particularly the scene in the ambulance after the Blackheart siege.
My thoughts to Sam’s family and wife for a quick and easy recovery from this scourge. Sam and Tracy are very dear to me from a little girl.
My sincerest wishes for everyone also to get stuffed today and enjoy it with family friends and our animal friends :)
And us vegetarians don’t fight the carnivores. Just make off with the side items :). (Ok folks hand over the cranberry sauce, and stuffing and no one gets hurt.)
I see a few ways this could end as well… one of them involves a certain FBI agent – which, while good drama, I hope another way wins out, where Sam’s wife beats cancer. (And Mayor Armstrong gets beaten ridiculously badly in the next election.)
I hope that it’s not Mike and Joe’s intent to have Mrs. Catchem die in order to set up a romance between F.A. and Sam. That would be very cheap, tasteless, classless and tawdry, in my opinion.
And yet, it seems that Team Tracy has been playing the long game and had the rapprochement between Sam and Fritz Ann occur so that this new subplot could be the next step in their personal story arcs. I also hope that it turns out that Fritz Ann is supportive. However, might Wendy Wichel (who has been notably absent in this storyline) try to insert an incorrectly-rumored romance between the two into this politically-charged situation?

I can just imagine how scathing Tracy’s voice would be in that last panel.

I think a few people called this one…or close to it, anyway.
Really blunt delivery, not only for the Mayor, but for all readers who are going through a hard time themselves.

Sam and his wife have my deepest sympathy. I had a bout with cancer myself, but I thank God that it was caught early enough to be removed surgically.

Today’s a time to reflect on life
And give thanks for it all
Yes even the strife
For good, bad and ugly are part of the deal
Showing appreciation shouldn’t depend
On how we might feel
All that I have, the happy and the sad
Only confirms that the rain
Falls on the good and the bad
For all of it I give Thanks to the Lord
And say Happy Thanksgiving Day
To everyone who’s on this board
Even those not in the U.S. of A!

Excellent strip today. Tracy’s response is all that Armstrong deserved.
Thanks for the mention, Neil. It’s all deja vu.

Happy Thanksgiving, all Dick Tracy fans and families!
Wow. Now we know why Sam has been distracted and glum. Best wishes to Sam and Mrs. Catchem.
Tracy’s scathing remark probably had little or no effect on Mayor Armstrong, unfortunately….

Ironically, this was about the time I started developing cancer without realizing it.
