Knowing what Aaron Marx is capable of pulling, I’m really not surprised. Still, that’s an ingenious way to handle someone (like Doc Chase) and get off the hook. Bravo!
Hmmm…given that Doc Chase is still around and doesn’t look any older older, I would bet it is only a few years at the most since Wally and the love of his life (Holly at that time) departed Endtown. The light panels in the ceiling suggest that this is still Endtown. I have never seen peaked roofs in E-town but that doesn’t mean that they didn’t exist in an area we haven’t seen.
You see, the whole Unity arc and what followed was a story told by AM. Truth is W & H have been living it up all this time over at Albion West where they are the toast of the social scene. ;-)
Went back and re-read in detail. It seems the election was to be held the day W&H left. So it has happened, but we don’t know yet who won. Given that Jacob and his followers were pretty anti typhoid Marys, the fact that a non-mutated child was front and center in AM’s audience makes me think that he might not have won. I suppose we will find out in Aaron’s good time…. ;-)
From a long time reader, first time writer.I’ve been reading Endtown for a few years now, but I only recently began reading the comments. I wish I had started sooner. Guys/Gals, I’ve got to hand it to you, reading your comments has opened my eyes to so many things that I have missed in Endtown. I just want to say thanks for catching and pointing out all the stuff that I have missed. Kudos, and keep it up.
Does Doc go on a quest now, to bring Holly back to Endtown, although maybe not Wally? A year to us in an hour or so to Doc, so maybe he could go questing on a Wednesday afternoon, instead of playing golf. Marx could open a wormhole for him. (space)Is Marx a Magical Pixie Dream Girl? Existing to fix others who think he needs fixing. (I probably shouldn’t use the word “fixing” in a colony of mutants.
I wouldn’t say that Marx is a Magical Pixie Dream Girl as much as a Trickster God, sort of "Endtown"s" version of Coyote. See “Gunnerkrigg Court” if you want to see how he’s like. I think Marx has good intentions, but he loves messing with people.
The one challenge with having a powerful character, like Aaron Marx, in a story is that he has the power to solve all the problems and kill the conflict in a story. Aaron Neathery’s solution seems to involve making Marx a trickster who uses his power sparingly to move things in a given direction but is either careful enough or lazy enough to not step in too often.
Walter was the Hero of Pep Cola Stadium, but I don’t think we were shown what he did. This may be the start of his story, framing his competition with Jackrabbit.
Your daughter?Uhh, well I dropped a grenade down the elevator shaft, broke her arm, found a town where everybody was dead except for a delightful couple who wanted to turn into animals.. didn’t mind what as long as it could cure cancer. Then… all hell broke loose and we only escaped the attack drones by turning ourselves invisible. Holly went all sorta catatonic and made friends with a truck, which was a shame when if got a puncture, ‘cause she had to unscrew its head and take it with her, thinking it was her baby, or at least it reminded her of a fish which is to say the same thing. Then, well we were attacked by the lizard people (who weren’t really attacking us), the they took us to their hidden city and fed us (except they weren’t really feeding us) and they were happy to see us (but they weren’t), and I attacked the cook so he had no choice but to execute me.Holly? She escaped, and they gassed her to death but she escaped, and they burned her to death but she escaped, and the psychotic raccoon from the darkest dimensions of hell attacked her and of course he was in league with Satan so the best she could do was to bite off all his fingers and run, then when the whole city went up in flames, killing everyone in screaming agony, she was rescued by my new girlfriend, ummm… I was going to tell you about that, I mean I love Holly and all that, but well Kirby’s got cold blood, a big smile and a detachable tail, know what I mean, hey? Then sorta everybody else died and we escaped. Holly found her head that she thought was her baby, but Kirbee thought she was becoming too attached to it so she buried it to make her feel better, but that only seemed to make her worse and after that she didn’t want to talk to anybody. When we got the the shipwreck, we found out it was because her baby was a fish and her husband was a monster that she blew up with a box of bombs. And she blew up the restaurant with bombs and people w
and people with bombs until the bombs came to blow up the bombs. We were saved by a magical fox who told us the password to the hidden gate in a magical cave, and a few of us were saved by the rat before everybody was killed but of course you already know that, you were there. We weren’t really there, of course, it was all just a nightmare. And that’s where we left Holly in her nightmare. She said she’d rather live forever in a nightmare than spend another day with me, and I can see her point. Of course, she tried to tell me she was having sweet dreams, but that was just to get rid of me because I saw her and it was a nightmare, believe me. Don’t worry – her nightmares will stop as soon as the ship’s drained her brain and her body starves to death, so it’s all for the best in the end. And that’s where I left her. I tried to look after your daughter – it could have been better, but it could have been a whole lot worse. I’m writing this note to give to Mister Aaron Marx, hoping it will get to you eventually. Signed your sort-of son-in-law, Wally Wallechinsky.
The Wally and Holly story ran from 17 Jan 11 through 09 Dec 16, almost seven years. I’ve been following for about half that time, just trying to figure out what is going on. Reading the first months of 2011, I read of an Endtown that I wasn’t sure I would like. The pig and the gator girl were shooting everything, it seemed, though, to be fair, the top sides were doing the same to them. // I’m kind of glad I came in the middle; I’m not sure I could have handled what went on in the beginning. // And I have heard nothing good about the “milk trial,” another pivotal moment in the Wally and Holly saga – that I missed.
I found Wally’s leaving Holly for Kirbee disturbing at first because I had started reading “Endtown” shortly after Wally met Holly, saw that first kiss, the night of passion that followed and had totally bought into the idea that Holly was the love of Wally’s life and the idea that that love would be eternal (or at least last for this lifetime). The sad truth is that life doesn’t work like that. There was a lot about Holly and her past that she kept hidden, things that caused her grip on life to erode once she had time to think. She couldn’t live in Endtown, or so she said, but she couldn’t hack it in the great waste either. Its sad that she chose the illusion of a perfect life as captain of a stranded vessel, but that’s life.

The question is does Doc Chase know? He would if it is “ever after” or has it been just a few years?
pam Miner about 8 years ago
Marx had better spit that tobacco out. He isn’t fooling Doc.

Well Endtown did not go down in a bloody riot. They have kids, but they are still underground (light panels on the cave ceiling in the first panel).
Looking forward to see what clarifications lie in store for us.

I suppose they’ll talk about the truth, or lack thereof, of the story about Wally and Holly that Marx was just telling those kids…

I wonder how Marx conjured up the bicycle story telling setup. It looks sweet.

Is it too late to hope a Police Box lands on Marx already?

Yea, figured Marx could “tell a story” when it actually happened/is happening.

Marx would rather have an exploding cigar. With a half-life.

Actually…I can hear it now, should Wally and co. end up back in endtown for whatever reason.
“Wally! We heard all about your journey!”
Wally: “…Wh…huh?”
