God and posters here talk about the fantasy characters in this comic as being snarky. Jeez!! It’s funny really, Bernice and Dez are talking in code about Piro, whom Luann does not know about, but sees no issue with really, with ties to both Tiffany and her part in the underlying story, and the mystery with the missing TV and Piro generally. People spend so much time on I wish TJ was gone, or I don’t like so and so. What about the storyline, and how the characters are being used to carry it forward? I don’t waste my time engaging in snark about the characters, I find it far more fun to enjoy how the characters are drawn in connection with each other and the predicaments they are in. Follow the story and forget the snark I say.
Well, I’m one of those posters who noted that Luann was being snarky. Actually, in case this was misconstrued, I was not complaining. I meant it humorously. For ages, posters have noted how Bernice was often snarky toward Luann. My observation was that Luann is now returning the favor, which may be long overdue.
—
On the other point, I more or less enjoy almost all the characters in the strip, from time to time. Some complain about Bernice, Pru, Tiffany, TJ, and others, wanting them gone, but I like all of these very well. Even Les adds some excitement. So I like to see what the Evanses choose to do with their characters. Admittedly, some story arcs can be slow, and others get more exciting.
Now Luann is the wise one – sipping her tea. Bernice is using the missing TV as an excuse to mitigate her longing for Piro. Bernice knows nothing about Piro. It’s just that a spark of attraction reminded Bernice that she hasn’t got her feet wet yet. Luann has known love…
Dez: “Actually, I don’t see why you shouldn’t be with him.”
Frankly, I challenge the assumption that Piro or really any human being would want to spend time with a frigid, uptight, controlling, jealous, person like Borenice.
@BRENDANCALLING: “Frankly, I challenge the assumption that Piro or really any human being would want to spend time with a frigid, uptight, controlling, jealous, person like Borenice.”
From what Bernice and Des are saying today, it seems as if Bernice is avoiding Piro. From yesterday’s strip, though, it sounded as if Piro has in fact disappeared. Which one is it?
If Bernice has any facts about Piro concerning the TV she should report them to the dorm manager. The Piro and TV stories have been so chopped up I can’t recall what facts Bernice has concerning him.
(Arrgh! I made the mistake of wading through the first few donny comments; then I skipped over the rest.)
The Moonyites code-talk to each other and their community college guest observes that they are weird psych class students. College sometimes changes people and old friendships. How will this play out? Is Piro off on a guilt trip? Will Bernice ever get out of her downward spiral into bitter spinsterhood? Holy moly, Luann!
Bern and Luann both have their extremist sides which are opposite. Dez and Pru exist for their moderating, mentoring effect(s). Bern’s obsessive compulsive overreaction is on display today as was Luann’s last week with Pru.
I wouldn’t lose any of the characters, they add spice. You can’t keep this strip going if you stick to the same ten characters forever. But how about we see more of those who are not part of the regular cast. Lets see some more Tiffany and Gunther, or see where Knute and Crystal are. Whatever happened to Delta, Zane or how about a love interest for Pru?
I must say, directly to the characters, in regard to today’s strip:
.
“Ladies, LADIES!! If you are going to speak in “code”, then why did you not consult me first?! I mean … Bernice, you’d make the worst poker player, EVER!! And Dez, I know you’re helping your friend, but quit kibitzing! But Luann … you’re showing potential! Like your style!"

For once I agree with Luann. The psychologists and social workers I’ve known have generally lacked any common sense about human relationships.

Bernice is all gooey for Star Head, yet She’s still convinced He’s a Thief. No Wonder He’s “on the run” from this potentially Dangerous, Raving Loon…,

If Bernice really thinks Piro might have stolen the TV, what does it say about her character that she’s keeping quiet on it?

As usual, Dez is counseling the “counselor.” Bernice (via G&K) needs to change majors.

Bernice has the incriminating scarf. She would be considered as an accomplice if Piro is suspected of stealing the TV. Can of worms. Harmful worms.

@SCHRODINGER’S DOG: There hasn’t been any mention of sororities or fraternities at Moony U. So maybe there aren’t any.

One thing I would suggest is to quit drinking wussy tea. Some black coffee, perhaps a round of double espressos would clarify everything.

Why shouldn’t Bernice be with Piro?
1. He has never shown any romantic interest in her and may even be gay.
2. She has no idea where he is, and suspects he’s a thief.
3. Why should Piro want a nagging, controlling, insecure woman who doesn’t trust him?
