The hidden rooms and passageways apparently weren’t shown on the floor plans that Tracy and the Spirit had. I wonder if they were shown on the plans that Brush bought. On the other hand, I don’t know that Brush needed secret passageways.
Looks like this whole thing may be just a scam after all. I hoped Mike wasn’t being cute, and having Brush reveal the truth with his comment that the whole thing was just a con game.
Considering how little action we’ve seen with the Dragon Lady, Warbucks, Smith, etc., I’m reminded of the end of “Murder By Death.”
Through the movie, take-offs of Sam Spade, Nick and Nora Charles, Poirot, Miss Marple, and Charlie Chan run in circles looking for a killer that may not exist.
And as they leave, ’Chan’s’ son asks: “Pop – was there a murder or wasn’t there?”
Ok, I’m all for ‘suspension of disbelief’ and all that, but THIS is just absurd and utterly ridiculous.
The Great Am has ‘doubles’… ok I can accept that, but one who has been his servant for many years just SUDDENLY decides he’s gonna kill flammel for the formula is absolute rubbish
Last week, I surmised “the butler did it” (to quote Inspector Wang from “Murder by Death”!) I guess it turns out that the Butler was in on it, he just didn’t actually commit the murder. I wonder if my motive was correct?
Limp along? Tracy and Spirit are about to enter a secret room where Ramon and Am’s double sip celebratory libations in the aftermath of murder. Having witnessed an armed confrontation with Brush and the arrest of Carrion, we are poised for a third reckoning courtesy of Tracy. All kinds of shenanigans go on under the roof of the Siam.
The letter Perenelle was reading the night she died is probably a threat to harm her if she did not hand over the formula/potion. Unfortunately, she told Ramon that they are going away the next day and when Ramon about Perenelle’s plans, Double Am made his move earlier than planned.
Aha! The shifty Ramon is in with Double Am! “Am” did the dirty work, with Ramon’s prompting and help, and Perenelle Flammel lies dead fish dead. Soon, Tracy and the Spirit will interrupt their little party. The remaining question is, is there a yet Bigger Fish to fry? (I’m putting aside the vexing matter of where on Earth the Am can find doubles….)

As Neil said, very much Agatha Christie.

… and there’s Ramon again. Hm.

Here’s a thought …
Ramon does have access to the Perenelle formula.
And the much older-seeming Am-Double …
… is actually Ramon’s son.

How to spot the Real Am? The Real Am smokes a cigar or a cigarette on a holder while Double Am smokes tobacco in a pipe.

Having committed a capital crime, crummy criminals collude in Am’s clandestine chamber. Consequences can cause conflict.

As I surmised earlier, this arc is going to limp along for another month or so. AT LEAST ’till April 1st. And on that day, big celebration!

Spirit: Hidden rooms and passageways? They weren’t shown on the hotel floor plans, Tracy!
Tracy: That’s why they’re called hidden, Spirit…
