We’re moving even farther afield with the Hall of Fame. Russia today! I went looking for online stories about him but most seem to be written in Polish or Spanish. An English one is the Christian Science Monitor is no longer online.
Is it just me, or is this story getting a bit silly? // It’s also looking less and less to be an introduction to whatever summer blockbuster Mike and Joe may have in store for us. Not unless something weird happens, such as Bribery taking an interest in a bank that BJ robbed, or something like that.
Blackjack is a fun character. He is a goof, yet armed and dangerous. His collectables fetish and affinity for Tracy mark him as an eccentric, a typically essential aspect of a Tracy villain. I suspect he is due for a fall. I found the cosUcon to be the strongest element of the 3Margies story. If anything, there should have been more of Honeymoon being a young sleuth-in-training. Instead of Big Margie walking out on the street holding the incriminating handbag, setting in motion the rushed ending at the underused construction site, I would have liked to have seen Honeymoon gathering footage from the Buster Bot. There was a video cam inside, thus a perfect chance for two generations of Tracy to gather evidence on two fronts. Alas, she vanished from the tale.
Thanks to Neil Wick, Night-Gaunt49, Gweedo, Willy Carlson, Ray Toler, Vista Bill, Chris Sherlock and JPuzzleWhiz for the kind words. Very much appreciated!
I guess the whole B.O. Plenty/Sunny Dell Acres/Bank battle was just a set-up to have B.O, & Gravel accidentally cross paths with Black Jack during a robbery, & this storyline is essentially a Black Jack story. At least the story is moving….
To be sure, Blackjack carries his obsession with Tracy and family a bit far, and his fixation on Sparkle is disturbing, and disturbed. Blackjack, I said a few days ago, has some screws loose. He is a bank robber (as we learn today, robbing a bank is his outlet or transference for an irresistible build-up of Tracyitis). He reveres Tracy and would not want to harm him, yet he transgresses the law in Tracy’s city. He is more to pitied than censured. Blackjack will suffer a great fall, or he will ward off a yet-more-evil villain. The pressure is building….
I’m really annoyed. I made this comment about 9 am EST and it’s not on the list. What I said was…“I understand the Sparkle Plenty Dolls and merchandise, after all she was a famous recording star as a child and that continues on to this day with her mother. But who licenses Dick Tracy images? I can’t see Dick doing it himself, he seems far to humble. Plus I’m sure there are rules against it in the city charter. Who benefits? The Tracys? The City? The police department? Or was there a less than horrible Tracy Movie in the continuity and this is what Blackjack is collecting? Honestly I don’t know.” (And I’m still steamed this didn’t post this am so I could have had benefit of the collected wisdom of y’all.)

Blackjack has a fetish. Get a load of his collection
Sparkle toys and magazines maintained in mint perfection.
Look to see a bobble-head, a Tracy mini-me
Over here more Tracy gear, ‘tis all that eye can see.
Colorforms! A classic set. Sparkle at Sunny Dell
Blackjack’s box in pristine shape, still has that new toy smell.
Over there a Sparkle doll sings her exultant song
Blackjack loves collectables, his mania so wrong.
A wardrobe for the dolly. A poster on the wall
Blackjack prone to robbing banks, he’s bound to take a fall.
Play a mournful tune for him on Sparkle’s toy guitar
Rob a bank in Tracytown and cross a bridge too far.
So thump your tub but listen, Bub, you’re in over your head
Should citizens be cross-fired you’ll be the walking dead.

I can see how Black Jack has that larger than life mien of a Batman villain of the 1960’s.

Maybe Blackjack will rob a bank that’s holding some of Mr. Bribery’s illicit millions……

Okay, I really like Blackjack. I think he’s first Tracy villain I’ve rooted for.

Blackjack’s fixation on Sparkle Plenty is creepy. Is he in love with her?

Good morning Ray Toler! It looks like some people here are beginning to agree with you (et moi) and “come out”.

Every home should have a Dick Tracy bobble-head.
