He knows perfectly well what they are saying. He just doesn’t know why.

Don’t understand why Man and Woman would allow any of the boys on eating surfaces especially the stove. Not safe for either humans or cats. Mine have never gotten on tables, counters or stove nor have tried.

Cats—like many of us—have developed the skill of selective hearing. Can opener? Bacon frying? They can hear those things for miles. The word ‘no’? ‘Get down’? Most of ‘em won’t hear those.

I Love my cat, but the first time she jumped up on my kitchen counter, I back-handed right off. She never did that again.

My kitty was caught on the dining room table once. A stern look and saying her name in a sharp tone got her butt off quickly!

My first cat had the bad habit of getting into the microwave while I was fixing breakfast. That habit was broken when she slipped on bacon grease and fell to the floor before I could catch her. I have a picture of her walking out of it just like she was a queen.

Taz is always getting on the furniture, since she was a kitten. She give a protest mew and jump down when I tell her “off the table”, but she’s never gotten the idea she should never get on the table in the first place.

I generally keep all horizontal surfaces stacked high with clutter, I’ve found that usually keeps the cats off them.

Morning light streaming through a window

    Illuminating my kitchen table.

I am seated, facing the window,

    Reading the paper,

Before me, a plate of scrambled eggs,

A morsel of egg on a fork

    Poised

About to go into my mouth.

A tall slim crystal vase with a single red rose,

    Just beyond the plate.

And filling the half of the table nearest the window,

    Sprawled,

Archie, a gray and white longhair,

    Soaking up the sun.

    [My favorite photograph of myself.]

Our cats are pretty much allowed anywhere except the stove top. I’ve never understood why people have a problem with it. If you are concerned with sanitation, consider that cat’s paws are almost certainly cleaner than human hands—they get washed more frequently. (Don’t believe me? Look it up—or visit a public men’s room.) If necessary, it takes less than a minute to clean and sanitize a food preparation surface, and it’s not a bad idea even if you have no pets at all. As for cat hair, that’s an essential nutrient …

My current two only go up on the kitchen counters and table when in pursuit of winged prey or to get to the windows – one must glare angrily at the squirrel from which ever window it’s at (they really, really hate it). They know to stay off when I’m cooking so no harm done

Cats on the table is fine with us. Amazing how careful and neat they are. They just like to be close by. That is what love is.

Our kitties are allowed on the table as long as it’s not mealtime. Well, usually. If it’s a small meal and we’re at one end of the table, they’re allowed on the other end. Otherwise, they get dropped on the floor or carefully placed on a cushion on the vacant chair (senior cats deserve a big more dignified of a Table Eviction, after all).

My cat Maxie goes on the table all the time. I almost never eat at my table though so it really isn’t a problem. I can’t remember her ever going up on the counters.

My cats are not allowed on any surface where food is prepared or eaten. They’re usually pretty good at not getting caught, unless I accidentally leave a box on the counter. Then they don’t care whether I’m watching or not! Ha ha.

My calico Chloe (RIP) used to help out by pre-washing the dishes, which were left on the countertop. I miss the sound of her jumping down and her self-congratulatory expression as she licked her lips!

I would have thought Elvis would know his name by now… the way the humans are shouting and everything. One of the humans should have moved Elvis since he is so oblivious. lol

This is the ultimate “off the table” command. Midnight would wait until someone was arms length before jumping off. This will send a blast of confusing air 20 feet. Merely lifting it now will send him running.

Coffee table, bed, top of book case, top of sofa, okay. Counter, no. The only time Vlad goes up on the counter is when he’s chasing those big palmetto bugs. Other than that, he doesn’t go up there.

Mine do not get up on the kitchen counter perhaps it is too cluttered. No way could they get up there. They are very unusual – they don’t beg for people food. A small piece that has fallen on the floor will be eaten, but if offered the same, it will not be accepted. don’t get on counters. A table once when it had a crazy quilt on it as a table cloth. To them it was a quilt not a table cloth. Never I nor they did that thereafter.
