Sorry Kate, even leaves are impacted by gravity. They fall to the ground and I rake them twice a year. Fill your room with clouds instead.

She is right, of course. Gravity is just a mechanism, and one we can learn to understand and control. Once we begin to see it as a mechanism, rather than as a mysterious force with which matter is imbued, we will be well on the way to understanding how space is affected by matter and why it results in the actions observed. Einstein’s observation that space is changed by the presence of matter, rather than having matter exert a force at a distance through no mechanism at all, will eventually be the key that opens the door.

Reality can be so inconvenient

the scientists screwed us up when they gave us all those restrictive laws of nature. We need to repeal them and make better laws for nature, then we can fly!

Just claim that the theory of gravity (yes, there is one as well as a law) is just that, a theory.

There is no gravity, the Earth sucks.

Science is just a method of observation and testing. I doesn’t make anything, it simply reports and then those reports are tested again independently to verify or refute…at least in its ideal use.

Part of the answer is that they’re engaged in projection: That’s the way things work in their world. ……Today’s right-wing intellectual universe, such as it is, is dominated by hired guns who are essentially propagandists rather than researchers.

And right-wing politicians harass and persecute actual researchers whose conclusions they don’t like — an effort that has been vastly empowered now that Trump is in power. The Trump administration is disorganized on many fronts, but it is systematically purging climate science and climate scientists wherever it can.

So as I said, when people like Limbaugh imagine that liberals are engaged in a conspiracy to promote false ideas about climate and suppress the truth, it makes sense to them partly because that’s what their friends do.

the inconvenience of what IS!

A lot of people love science, but don’t buy into scientism. We don’t believe that just because Stephen Hawking, Neil deGrasse Tyson, Carl Sagan, Michio Kaku or other famous scientists said something, it must be true. Science didn’t predict the universe having a beginning, or having so many precise properties. Science also didn’t predict specified complexity and specified information in even the simplest forms of life. Instead, many scientists have proposed radical hypotheses like the multiverse, parallel universes, panspermia, spontaneous generation, and punctuated equilibrium to get around what they were actually observing. Why? Because they couldn’t deal with the implications of what they were actually observing! The belief that science is the only path to truth necessarily leads to the belief that scientists are the only worthy purveyors of truth. Of course, this only applies to scientists with a certain agenda. Any scientists who deviate from that agenda, no matter how well qualified those scientists may be, are censured in academia. So…you can make sound scientific conclusions based on actual observations and be ostracized and ridiculed, but you can come up with wild, unobservable, untestable theories and hypotheses and be welcomed and celebrated.

Gravity – Centripetal force in action…

I had a physics professor (back in the late 70’s) that made a convincing argument that there is no such thing as centrifugal force. It’s not really a force; it results from inertia. Centripetal force is a real force and an example in action would be what we call gravity.

Unfortunately, for Danae, physics describe reality and it is kinda hard to repeal and replace reality (except for the religious and oh so many of the right wing).

Holy buckets. I did not realize there are so many think tanks and higher critics out there. All the fuss over a comic strip. Surely there is more to life than getting blood pressure up over a comic strip.
