My family used to own a set of encyclopedias too… when it had references to the U.S. presidents, it went as far as to the Reagan presidency.

My set is from 1960 so all the current events stop at 1959.

I grew up in the ‘60s with an encyclopedia that thought Eisenhower was still president. I guess that’s not but so different from today’s Google that wishes Obama were.

Unlike google, an encyclopedia will introduce you to things you’ve never considered. I read one in 3th grade.

One of the running gags on 1960’s “Laugh-In” that gets lost on recent generations, “Look THAT up in your Funk and Wagnalls!”

I remember my set of encyclopedias from the late 50s….. I still have the massive Webster’s dictionary that came with it.

I bought an unabridged dictionary in installments and assembled it myself. Bought my encyclopedias the same way. Both gone long since. If they had still been around they would not have made the last move. Now, I carry access to the world’s knowledge in my pocket. I occasionally use it for phone calls.

I did have some 1901 dictionaries my Mom had. Loved reading them. Before Pluto was discovered (1930) and I did miss them when we moved and was told I could not bring them.

I unloaded ours at a garage/tag sale last decade. Appreciate the space they gave me!

We had a set of World Book encyclopedias and their Childcraft series when I was growing up. I ended up with them for some reason, then at a family reunion I snuck them into my daughter’s car for my grandkids.
