pocketknives don’t belong in school nor in the airport (unless with the latter you find a model that doesn’t have the blade)

Well, at least the comb is one thing he will never part with.

It’s a shame that a little boy can’t carry a pocketknife anymore—mainly because he’s not been taught what it’s meant to be used for, i.e., whittling sticks or the like.

I’ve always had a handkerchief in my pocket and always carried a pocket knife – except, of course, on airplanes where TSA have even confiscated my fingernail clippers ! I carry a comb but tend to lose it ( usually in the wash ) or forget to take it out of my back pocket when changing pants.

I’ve carried a pocket knife and/or folding knife since I received my very first one. sixty-three ago for my 9th birthday.

I learned iron on my fathers’ handkerchiefs. My sister and would iron stacks and stacks of them. This was back in the 1960s. Do handkerchiefs even exist any more? Unless they’re for show in a breast pocket, I hope not for sanitary reasons.

Why carry a handkerchief if you wear a long sleeve shirt? All he really needs is the pocketknife.

Those little knives were always called pen knives, because they were used to trim a quill pen when you were writing a letter. In the days before tissue, everybody needed a hankie. Hubby carries a knife he earned for memorizing Bible verses when he was 14.

When I teach my Life in the 1700s classes the kids are horrified – horrified I say! – to learn about cloth diapers and pocket handkerchiefs.

Every red blooded american male should have a pocket knife in his pocket. I did have to give one up recently going through a security check because I forgot I had it in my pocket.

Was riding a bus to one of the Casinos up north and it broke down,,,,,The driver went out to check the situation and came back asking if anyone had a knife…..I was the only one on the bus who did…He made some temporary repair and we were on our way…Have carried a pocket knife since I was Six, and all the other boys did too….Ever play “Mumbly-Peg” at recess? No big deal at our schools… (you throw your knife at a target different ways – No big deal and it Didn’t freak out the teachers -once in a while one would join in…)…

I carry a knife and a Leatherman in school all the time. Use them quite often also. Of course being a teacher I can get away with them now, but I carried a knife all during my growing up days including at school. Would have carried a Leatherman if they had been invented and I could have afforded one. ;)

I used to carry a comb, until I started keeping my hair too short to need one. I do like it long enough to show I still have hair.
