Are we perhaps regretting the Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision in 2010 that ruled that corporations are indistinguishable from living, breathing human beings? Well, if not, we sure should be!

No, no… this is Second Responders, Inc.

First responders actually get things done.

We sure can’t say anything bad about first responders, right now, here in Sonoma County, California.

Not after approximately 1 zillion of them… not lifeguards, I’ll admit, but mostly firefighters….

showed up from all over the state and beyond,

to risk, even lose, their lives saving us from the deadliest wildfires in California history, in a terrifying week we’ll never forget.

Hundreds of thousands of acres, reaching into urban areas as never before, destroyed… about 8,500 buildings gone, whole neighborhoods turned into ash.

Firefighters, medical personnel, even the sheriffs department….

they are our local heroes, who can never be repaid.

I know this is a comic, and I get the joke….

I’m not angry; not one of those people who posts “Too soon.”

    Funny is funny, after all.

But I wonder whether even Wiley, who once lived here in Santa Rosa,

would have held off a bit on this strip, had he not submitted it months ago.

This is more like when I pulled a dog out of a frozen pond some years ago. He and his sister decided to go on an adventure, she returned soaking wet, but he didn’t. As it was, my company made me use my lunch time for it. Good thing I called 911 first, mostly in case I ended up in the pond with him, but it also ensured I could continue on quicker. I was able to snag his collar with a branch. Work would have probably fired me. You know, not part of my job, blah, blah, blah… except for the bad press it would undoubtedly given them. That said, the dogs owners were really nice people, that was the only place they hadn’t thought to look. Lots of ponds and creeks around there. A place I don’t normally go that early in the morning, but the stars or whatever were aligned… I even got some hand made cards from the dogs kids, I still have them somewhere. Not to mention I made a doggy friend. Totally worth burning some lunch time.

All too often some idiot makes the news after being rescued from a crisis of their own making. Whether it be driving through water on a closed road, climbing beyond one’s competence, or trying to cross the Pacific in a teacup, first responders take risks and expend resources based on someone elses selfish ignorance of real costs and benefits. One person’s cost for another’s benefit.

“Corporate Responsibility” is another oxymoron to be added to the list, like “Genuine Plastic”, “Honest Politician”, and “Military Intelligence”!

First Responders Inc, Another Trumpian idea to privatize our lives.

Sadly, this cartoon echos the Emperor’s sentiments when it comes to aiding Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

They never should have ventured out into that toxic substance – Dihydrogen monoxide is deadly and nothing to disregard! They chose to expose themselves to the dangers of close proximity – they should show more responsibility!

Our mayor ordered an evacuation of Flooding Zone A. The Storm surge came. 100 people that didn’t leave sat on their 2nd floor window ledges. We sent boats to rescue them. I wonder if the boat people collected any cash for the 1st Class Rescue.

I took it as a slap at corporations trying to take over public services, like the four decades, paid/volunteer I spent as a first responder.
