Is one of them, “Catcher in the Rye”?
Hope one of them isn’t the 14th letter of the alphabet. That’s a no-no.
I’d call him Mr. Too Smart For His Own Good.
One of them has to be “brat”.
@whiteheron: thanks again for lowering the level of discourse to ‘purely common’
13 – there’s also “Blue moon” which refers to the second full moon in a given month.
I remember really, really noticing a new moon back on Aug. 21.
Caulfield should just use the names of the Jewish month, which starts on the new moon.
Isn’t “new” moon name enough?
I bet I can guess at a couple of names Mrs. Olsen has for Caulfield:
“hemorrhoid”“sciatica”
Twelve names for this kid? I’ll bet that none of them is repeatable in mixed company.
If this were the real world, I’d worry about Caulfield getting the guidance he may need.
You know you shouldn’t be mooning your teachers, Caulfield.
Mrs. Olsen has a hard time, which Caulfield gives her. But she recognizes his potential, and as a dedicated teacher, feels obliged to do her best for him. So she can’t just call him a “brat” and be done with it.
