Her “Version 2.0” is brilliant planning. When problems develop she can always upgrade to “Version 3.0”.

I thought Moses dropped those last 5 commandments….

Whatever you think of religion, most wars are fought for land and power - not over religion. Sometimes it’s used as an excuse or justification, but mostly it’s all just power.

I have just one word for you: Baha’i Well, OK two more: Progressive Revelation…OK, OK 3 phrases: One God (no matter what name or term we use for the Supreme Unknowable), One Mankind (even body parts are interchangeable;o}) and, One Religion progressively revealed (like the same highway, but God changes the road signs and number every millennium?) Actually almost all wars have been fought for money and power. Religion has sometimes been used to motivate the troops and pacify the population.

For the past century or so the religion of nationalism has been used for this purpose.

99.9% of us don’t know what’s really going on. The .1% who do own the media and everything else and want to keep us ignorant. The 400 wealthiest individuals in this country have a combined net worth of over 7 trillion dollars! How many are homeless? How many are unemployed? Isn’t there supposed to be some sort of social contract that prevents us from becoming the slaves of the elite?

I’ll bet, FishStix, that you consider America a Christian nation. If so, I would point out that much of your rant is completely antithetical to the teachings of Jesus the Christ. I would suggest you read what Jesus (and the Hebrew prophets as well) said about the poor and the marginalized. If you would like to see your proposed document adopted, we would definitely have to stop laying claim to any kind of religious basis other than selfish self-interest.

RE: Danae’s statement. Islam has no intention whatsoever of being recognized as the most peaceful religion, so her premise is off from the get-go. Islam is only concerned with submission to Allah.

Christianity is concerned with Christ’s return to the Earth. I say, if there is a God in Heaven (I believe there is), let Him reveal Himself (I believe He will). Just watch out for the first one on the scene!

The primary virtues of ALL of the Abrahamic Religions are OBEDIENCE, and CONFORMITY whether these are explicitly stated or not.

I’m really tired of the liberal=”I want everything for free” ad hominem attacks. I am very liberal and pro business. The best thing for business is a healthy and prosperous population.

@fishstix: What about those who, after years of acquiring a college education, getting a good job and working productively for years, got fired because the greedy bosses decided to ship the jobs overseas to maximise their profits, leaving their former employees with no jobs and no ‘golden parachutes’? All the thousands and thousands of those people who cannot find a job in this country right now because they’ve all been outsourced? Don’t they deserve some sort of help and support?

By the way, I’m always amazed by people like Fishstix, that is, the rabid uber-conservatives who keep reading things they consider ultra-liberal.

If they really find it that offensive (and I’ve asked before) WHY do they keep reading it? Are they just masochists who love the pain? Or are they reading it to look for the secret code liberals use to communicate their hidden agendas?

Either way, they should go comment on Newt or Rush or some like-thinking page, and let the rest of us enjoy the comics.

I think I just became Agnostic.

Danae (meaning Wiley) is saying that mainstream religions exist (at least in part) by using intimidation and veiled threats. The doctrine of original sin is intimidation, and hell is a not-so-veiled threat.

@FishStix. I am puzzled about the part of your statement “liberals have government take what I earned from me, VIA THREAT OF CONFISCATION AND/OR IMPRISONMENT, so that they can give it….et al.” I can’t think of anything other than Imminent domain or failure to pay income taxes that would cause either of those situations. And neither of those would go into the welfare state. Hope you are still reading comments to explain that scenario.

Well, Wiley, you sure stirred up a hornet’s nest with this one. Amazing how we all look at life through our own individualized lenses. I always wonder about the childhood of people like FishStix who are so resentful of being FORCED to share. Do they willingly and compassionately contribute to the needy on their own?

I’m with you 100%, Fish Stix. I left Canada for that very reason. No matter which Government was in place, we were over-taxed and over governed.

Taking more money from me only takes money away from the charities I support, so that it can go to the Big Government’s mismanaged programs.

I agree with Fishstix and Grog in that much welfare money is wasted, but much isn’t. Paying taxes is not the same as having the government steal it from you. It’s the law of the land, and has been since the beginning. At least we don’t have to quarter the British soldiers in our homes any more like our forefathers used to. I can’t believe you want the widows and orphans to starve just because no one but the government will help. Do wish more money went into education though. Night all, bet this is the last post.

For all those griping about their taxes going for welfare, I don’t hear anyone complaining about the taxes going to fund the multiple wars we are in. And boy, look at how much good they are doing for us.
