Les doesn’t live with his uncle, so he doesn’t know the answer to these questions. However, since Gunther lives at home with his mother, most likely he is fully away of what his mother and Mr. Gray are doing together.
Gunther has repeatedly shown his tendency toward anger, which a number of posters have already acknowledged. So it’s happening again.
Gunther doesn’t respond well to teasing. Some people with more inner strength and personal security would find a way to diffuse the situation by joking back.
I think I’ll just sit back and enjoy today’s strip, and how nicely it’s put together, without trying too hard to analyze it or speculating on what’s going on in the other room… or what might happen tomorrow….
I see it as an example of the tooclose mother son relationship here. I don’t mean anything untoward at all, other than a young man should be able to allow his mom to have a personal relationship, while at the same time developing the ability to have such relationships himself. Gunther is a classic case of a son who real problems in that area, and allowing his mom to be a woman and not just mom would be a good step. Maybe the possibly developing relationship with Tiffany is away to that good step, but I have my doubts given what happened Rose. I had such hope then. I do like the fact that Les is so cool here, but not threatening, contrary to what some comementators seem to think, and more mature about the adultness of a relationship between two adults. They might become cousin-in-laws.
Poor yams. Liquefied. Just buy empty baby food jars and can them and sneak them onto the baby food aisle at the grocery store. Who else will eat liquefied yams?
Gunther is over-the-top prudish. It’s one thing to be a little squeamish here, but to be so upset/enraged that he pulverizes the yams? He seems unwell and infantile.
I like how Les is drawn here – Greg’s skill at visually conveying personality.
Most kids do not like to think of their elders in sexual situations. Les seems quite the opposite. Especially when he can yank Gunther’s chain/rile him at the same time.
I don’t think Gunther’s being “over-the-top”, or too prudish. Les has just found new ways to get his goat. I do think, however, that Gunther ought to slap his name on an “unclaimed blender design”, and market that sucker!
gotta admit “Less had More” humor this time. He gave me a morning laugh. He’s saying that uncle Hitch doesn’t take off his “gray” suit off ever, and Gunth’s mom ain’t exactly a hottie. Less surprised me with his grin too. they are rare.
and Gunthy is trying to look tough by holding up his grudge, and the yams paid for it. looks to me like Less is calling Gunthy out on his grudge, to chill.
1. Question…. if someone is purposefully mashing yams to eat…. can they really be overmashed (aka “killed”) as Les is suggesting?
2. I find it interesting and truthful today how Greg is portraying the young adult mindset. Folks probably into their late 20s will often grimace and chortle about the “bedroom” activities of “older” adults. It is almost as if they think they invented “bedroom activity”. :)
3. I do admit the rather fussy and formal persona of Al makes it strange to imagine his “less formal” proclivities. And the same is true for Mrs. Berger as well. But, presuming they are intimate… I am sure that they find a myriad of ways to have such encounters be successful.
4. Since I was unable to comment yesterday, I do have one thing to add about Mrs. Berger’s dialogue from yesterday that I do not believe anyone else mentioned….. when she said yesterday “My handsome men are here!”, to me… that felt like she was actually excluding (unintentionally) Gunther… in effect, dismissing him as as being neither “handsome” nor “a man”. Now, I realize that was NOT her intention. But, it would have been better for her to say something akin to “My OTHER handsome men are here!”
5. Finally, Les’ teasing banter today… seems far more normal and typical for friends / potential future half-siblings…. and far less “thuggish” than the old Les. So, I like the changes he is displaying.
Pipe is finished, but I am going to go get more coffee and get back to work.
Doesn’t anyone see Les’s question as inappropriate? If he wants to know, he should discuss it with his uncle. Gunth has already made himself clear about his mother’s relationships. If shtupping Mr. Gray makes her happy, then he is happy, but he doesn’t need to know the details. Sounds like a righteous mother/son relationship to me.
I still wonder if Mr. Gray was the man who abandoned Ms. Berger and Gunther right after baby Gunther was conceived. Gunther really should be in therapy because that disturbing obsession with his mother is creepy.
With Tiffany’s help, Gunther has made some progress toward accepting his mother as a woman. But he is still has a ways to go. Maybe Les will be helpful; who knows?. He might ask Gunther why he didn’t bring Tiffany this time.
So Les is still a jerk and Gunther has a short fuse. This is all coming to a head pretty soon. Now this story arch seems connected, if in a very roundhouse way, to several others. Les’ mom and her supposed lingerie parties. The fact that Luann and company are going to one of these lingerie parties. Gunther’s relationship with Tiffany and hers with her father and his girlfriend. Are we seeing a conclusion where all of these story archs meet head on?
Maybe Leslie is tone-deaf when delicate social issues are involved, and maybe Gunther is hyper-sensitive on the question of his Mom’s “love life,” but these two seem to need a Time Out….
I would love to see Ann Eiffel at this table. I know – not likely – but she is a relative. Add the recent Tiffany to the scene. I picture Les pushing Gunther’s buttons. Then Ann leaning over and giving Gunther a kiss. Not so much out of kindness – more a demonstration of her power. Hopefully Tiffany would decide to sweetly rescue a very flustered Gunther.

Very soon it will slowly DAWN on These Two, that if Al and Ma Berger get Married, then Les and Gunth will be “Family.”
And so will Ann…..,

Does anyone know: On ArcaMax, how can you navigate to an episode of a strip if you know the date? I don’t see any way to do it.
The URLs for non-current episodes just contain a reference number. Not a date that you can modify.
(I’m looking at a strip there that GoComics doesn’t carry.)

So far, we’re up to Wednesday, and no appearance by Tiffany. Also, no argument over her between Gunther and Les. I’m liking this arc more and more…

Les is confident and in control during conversations. That shows personal strength of character and a positive self-image.
But poor “Gunthie” obviously has a long way to go.
