Well maybe I want a bit more dangerous drama, but no kid pointing his weapon even. Which means he is a good hunter? Still now they need to free him and get him to a hospital.
If Sawtooth was trying to set Tracy’s death to look like an accident he sure screwed up….where I come from finding someone duct taped to a tree froze to death usually doesn’t get classified as an accidental death.
Watching this story unfold, I had a couple of thoughts about it…1>. Assuming Tracy is in peak physical health for a man his age (given the fact he is a grandfather would put him in his mid-50s), depending upon how much time passed, he would be suffering from frostbite as well as hypothermia. So his nose and ears would be in rough shape to start with, but his feet would be a real concern. Your feet only get the minimum amount of blood to keep them alive, which is why diabetics have to watch their feet closely….and amputation was so common with diabetics. 2> As this story further unwinds, would like to see Honeymoon’s friendship with Ugly Crystal continue. I could see a situation where whereCrystal messes up one of Bribery.s plans when she realizes that Honeymoon’s friendship overtures are real.
VERY COOL!! I went to Google to see if Rifle Ruby had appeared at any time earlier in Tracy history, and the word “GOOGLE” in the banner had cartoony eyes and candles on top of each letter, so I hovered my mouse to see who’s birthday it was, and it said “HAPPY BIRTHDAY TIM!” Pretty awesome!
By the way, she DID appear previously and ironically enough in this link she is listed as a “trigger happy hermit”.. lucky for Tracy she wasn’t trigger happy in the strip above

I’m wondering why T-Bolt hasn’t connected the dots yet and dropped the proverbial dime on Sawtooth and/or Bribery. Maybe she will. Either way, Sawtooth is toast in a short. In Texas, he’d never make it to trial; in California, he’d be elected Governor and Parade Marshall for his own parade.
I get that this is secondary to the whole story, so they are moving it along quickly. But, Ruby shouldn’t have been able to tell who it was tied to the tree – just a man in a trench coat, from her point of view. Tracy’s coat is not supposed to be like a super hero uniform. Sure, it is traditionally yellow, but that goes back to the printing limitations of early newspaper color sections. Within the story, it is a regular trench coat. After all, the original name for the strip was going to be Plainclothes Tracy
Just as I hoped! Ruby to the rescue! She said last time she’d never do that again, even after she extracted the bullet from his skull. She’s got a bone to pick with him! (giggles)
First, I have a nit to pick. Both Rifle Ruby and Rhett appear to me to be carrying shotguns rather than rifles. I suppose it doesn’t matter too much, but it’s been gnawing at me, and today’s drawings look to me more like shotguns than like most rifles (only a hammerless semi-automatic long gun might look like this, but even then one might argue that Rhett at least is carrying a pump-action shotgun). Depends on what kind of game they set out after, too. (Birds? Shotgun. Deer? Rifle.)
I deem Tracy’s famous yellow trench coat and fedora to be sufficiently well known in Tracyville to be recognizable; plus, Rifle Ruby has met him before. Put all that together with his being tied to a tree in the forest and the identification is easy and quick. The question is, what condition is Tracy in at this point? Will he need to spend much time at the remote cabin recuperating? Will he be able to contact Sam via Wrist Wizard? At least he had his hat, trench coat, and gloves; his potentially wet and frozen feet may be the biggest concern….
I’m really disappointed. I’m 74 and have read D.T. for decades and he has always been able to get out of tight spots on his own. Once he was buried under a highway and managed to call for a gun and backup to surprise his kidnappers when they returned. Another time some villains wife had him chained under a big block of ice with a sharp spike aimed to pierce his heart, and a midget named Heals Heals had an ordinary electric fan with sharpened blades set up to slice his jugular and he escaped them all without depending on any outside rescue! How the mighty has fallen!
Sorry to comment three times in a row from Honolulu. It’s “Heels Beals” and according to Wikipedia, it was Mrs. Pruneface who tried to off Tracy with an ice embedded spike.
1. Worth going back several days to see how they managed to tie Dick Tracy to a tree. Typical for cartoons, but a real bother trying to tie a policeman fighting for his life to one in real life.2. Sawtooth isn’t dumb. In real life, if he’s got this far, and intends to kill Dick Tracy he would have put a pistol shot under the jaw, or used a knife in the right place. (And if not killed, Dick Tracy would be smart enough to play dead).

Don’t get so excited about it, Ruby. It’s just a guy you know tied to a tree in the freezing cold.
