Something I saw in a history program on TV: In Spain, a Muslim was helping a Christian translate some astronomy texts from Arabic to Spanish. For some words, they didn’t know the Spanish word, so they used the Arabic word, as “azimuth” for example. In reading some digits, the Muslim used “zero.” The Christian asked “How do I write a ‘zero’?” “Draw a hole” was the answer.
