Coming Soon đ At the beginning of April, youâll be
introduced to a brand-new GoComics! See more information here. Subscribers, check your
email for more details.
I donât understand why Greg would feel the need to second-guess his characterization of Fay â i.e. her skin tone and likely ethnic background â but thatâs what appears to be happening.
Some of you say Faye is high school girlâŠwould a high school girl allow her mother to escort her by hand? High school kids would rather die than be seen being treated that way. From my perspective, Faye is younger than high school kid based on her body, stature and behavior.
Nice detour to a sweet story, that has Luann in it doing her thing with younger people. She gets it from her parents, and Pittsville generally, which is a good place. Will it win over Ann Eiffel? Time will tell, but we are now to do Saturday, and either this detour will conclude, or will last another week. Bets either way?
It is so strange to me and slightly amusing that people are seldom happy when they receive what they had been wishing for. Fayeâs mother had wanted her daughter to be more assertive and bold. Now the woman seems to be down right annoyed at the thought that her shy mouse is becoming more forward. Faye is growing and part of that is growing up. Her world is expanding and including more people of both genders. Faye didnât back down from her mother but she didnât throw a tantrum. She asked for consideration and a way to address her motherâs concerns. She is handing this with maturity and grace. Her mother should be proud of her.
And thatâs a series wrap on Fay, ladies and gentlemen! Because something tells me that her mother has no intention of letting her near Luann ever againâŠ
First of all, Faye is in the 6th grade. Her motherâs ridiculous hyper control is due to her own harsh upbringing under restrictive religious parenting. She wasnât allowed to date until she left her parents control for college and ended up marrying her first boyfriend. Sheâs unhappy yet lacks the emotional intelligence to connect the dots. Sheâll regret this when, 4 years later, she catches Fay sneaking out at night to hookup with guys sheâs met in the Internet. Still not willing to admit to her mistakes, she will blame Luann in a future story arc.
Donât look so confident, Fay. Your mom just doesnât want to tell you âNo wayâ in front of Luann. Once youâre in the car sheâs going to not only say No but possibly end the mentorship with Luann because sheâll know Luann coached you on this.
The object of Fayâs argument yesterday was to open communication with her mother on the topic of participating in the play. Mrs. Garcia consented to talk more at home.
I have to think this is not going to go well for Faye when she gets home. I just hope it doesnât crush her in the end and that she and Lu will still have a relationship.
I think this arc will continue into next week. But Iâd rather go back to the Tiff thread.
The mom knows that Luann is influencing Fay. She will wait until Luann is not around to put her daughter back in her place. Fay is only strong around Luann.
Well, with all this-here âtheater dramaâ, I think Iâll go take in a film ⊠I know!!! âŠ
Iâll go see that movie just out about the giant robots that go fight those huge monsters by DAY!!THEN, they go do stand-up comedy by NIGHT!! ⊠Thatâs right, folks! Iâm gonna go see âŠ
Fay seems optimistic, though Iâm not sure thatâs justified. Maybe Mrs. Garcia has decided that it is finally time for her to have the too-long-delayed âmother and daughter talkâ with Fay.
I hope we get some resolution, one way or anotherâŠ.
Tomorrow Knute and Crystal are spotted at Babies R Us, shopping before all the stores close for good. Crystal says to Knute, âNow that weâve got the stuff, weâd better do the deed.â
Weâll talk at home" may be Momspeak for âNO! and theres no discussion I just didnât want to argue about it in public.â Or maybe Luann is gaining ground. She could make a great teacher, like âLizardbreathâ (Elizabeth) from âFor Better or For Worseâ Lynn Johnstonâs Classic.

Iâm glad I was wrong about going another week. Weak won out over week.
Somebody got it exactly right about the folded hands.
And Fay is exactly wrong being the same shade skin color as mom.
The strip IS being WRITTEN in color with a newspaperâs black & white being an afterthought.

Well, phase one complete, but will Fay be able to execute phase two on her own?

Momâs body language is suggesting a very short, one-sided conversation.

Itâs official â Faye has been Europeanized or is that Caucasianized? Letâs get Faye back to Latina. We need more diversity in this strip.

Luann doesnât share Fayâs confidence. Mrs. Garcia is the kind of person who would count your items in an express check out

And thatâs the last we will see of Fay as her mother finds her another drama teacher.

Call this a win for Fay & Luann and move on.

She paid Luann to give her daughter more confidence, and now itâs backfiring, because sheâs standing up to her.

I think people are slightly over-reading momâs reaction. She is suspicious, but, understandably, doesnât want this discussion in front of Luann.
