Fay – “Mom? This is Axel, my Fiancé! WAIT, I Mean Boyfriend! No, No, I MEANT ‘Co-Star!’ That’s it! Coooo—Star! So, can I Keep Him, pretty pleeeeeease?.”
I’m torn between “all’s well that ends well” and “all’s well that ends.” It’s only Friday; will there be a surprise Saturday? But what really bugs me is, given our first impressions of both Mom and Axel, isn’t this just a bit too easy?
Worst case scenario. Fay gets everything she wanted with virtually no effort. I could stand to have just a little more conflict to make the story more interesting.
Co-star/lead for now, boyfriend for later, Axel this young lady has plans for you, but the most important thing is that Fay has grown so much, and it shows Luann in a more developed arc as a helper, teacher, motivator, coach. Who would have thunk it!! Mom is taken too, so happy her daughter has come to happy, confident life.
OHHH MY STARS, I just figured it out. I know why this storyline didn’t happen months ago, when we all wanted it to. I know why we’ve been jumping around, switching from story to story. I know why Axel went from “bad boy” to “misunderstood good boy”.
Greg is playing us for ratings. He tries out a storyline for a couple of weeks, and then switches to a previous storyline while he waits for the feedback to roll in. If we liked his new storyline, he’ll resurrect it in a couple of weeks. He’s been feeding off our feedback. That’s why Axel is so different now – we didn’t like Fay crushing on a total jerk. In the time between “Fay storylines”, Greg took our feedback into account and recreated Axel’s character. Axel is now being reintroduced to us as a good guy. There will soon be another gap in the “Fay chronicles”, as Greg figures out what we want to see next. As we speak, he is deciding (based on our feedback) what to give us more of next. Tiffany? Gunther? Brad and Toni? The list goes on.
I mean, of course that’s what he’s doing. He has to take feedback into account. I’m just embarrassed that it’s taken me so long to see the pattern.
We see a smiling Mom – and Luann in Hog Heaven. If this goes to Friday night, I visualize the smiling Luann hearing a ring on her cell phone: “Luann it’s Tara. Can you go over the the police station – and bring $1,000?”
This ending seems too pat. So, there might be a twist coming tomorrow? I do not know, but it has that sort of feel.
Of the comments I have read today, though, I like the idea of Saturday being the day Mrs. Garcia apologizes to Luann and then potentially the arc ends for a while.
Out of curiosity…. I haven’t seen anyone else comment on this…. but I noticed at least yesterday and today that when you hit reply on a comment, it no longer appears to label/associate that comment with the person you are replying to (other than being in the same group). What I mean is:
Say if I make a new comment and someone (lets say Schrodinger’s Dog) replies to my comment…. his comment shows up under mine like usual. But, if I specifically hit the reply button to Shrodinger’s Dog’s comment to me, it used to open a reply box that would have automatically inserted @Schrodinger’s Dog (in blue) which would then be at the front of my reply. It has not seemed to do that the last two days.
I only mention it because I am thinking if that feature is not functioning it may also be affecting our notifications of comments as well. If this is the case, I hope it is something GoComics is working to restore.
And, I am not sure what the purpose or value is of the new “green check mark” that appears in the window that you are writing comments into now. That seems to be new to me as well during the last few days.
And…. (last one, I believe)…. now when I submit a comment, the comment window takes me back to the very beginning of the entire list of comments and I have to scroll down again to get to the bottom. That seems odd and weird.
I am wondering if all these things are things I am perhaps seeing because I switched to a Windows 10 machine (from 7) or if GoComics is tweaking the system and has some odd issues at the moment?
OK… clearly, the point of this arc is to demonstrate that Luann really does have a talent as a mentor/teacher. That’s why Fay and Axel have it relatively easy for a fictional adventure; they are more props than protagonists here, but hey, I don’t think they are complaining about it, and neither am I. ;p
The mom seems to be bi-polar. When Fay was auditioning a couple days ago the mom had her arms crossed and a scowl on her face. Today she is happy and proud that her daughter got the part. Very odd behavior. She was not happy at all to have her daughter auditioning.
Yesterday I listed three ways the Fay/Axel arc could go. I’ll add a couple: Axel falls for Fay’s understudy, consequences ensue for Luann. Axel turns out to be a cootie instead of a cutie, Fay moves on.
Aside: I only do this so down the pike I can say I told ya so! (o:

I suspect the conflicts will come when Fay and Axel begin their rehearsals. Either they couldn’t stand each other or fall in love.

Why the hesitation, Fay? He’s not your boyfriend. Heck, he’s barely even your ‘friend’.
Try this: “Mom, this is Axel. He’s a bit of a jerk, I think. I don’t know him, but he’s probably a catch!”

Axel looks much more like a good kid than he did, but the change in his behavior is weird. Wasn’t he belittling the whole concept of drama class?
