Dick Tracy by Mike Curtis and Charles Ettinger for March 11, 2018

Heading down a country road, Dick Tracy’s in a pickle

Blindsided by Chef Boy-ar-dee. The fates can be so fickle.

First waylaid then torn and flayed. Ye Gads! This is a mess

Should Pepper pick up speed ahead can Tracy take the stress?

Time slows down thus fettered, the body in grave danger

This road the one less taken, so wee hope to see a stranger.

Reality brutality. Can’t take much more abuse

Key in hand can’t reach the lock, so is of little use.

O dear! A deer in moonlight clear stands in the road so bold

Pepper forced to hit the brakes, circumstances thus unfold.

Tracy is free, snub-nose in hand, now taking careful aim

A shot rings out, cuts through the night and things are not the same.

I think it’s a better idea to announce an arrest once you know you have the upper hand…

Good morning™, people on the loose!

The handcuff in the first frame opens properly, but the one in the second last frame looks like one of those stuffed animal arcade game claws.

Whoever suggested that Ghost should back up the car, he seems to have listened.

Here’s a really good article about this week’s honoree, K9 Kody (and his successor):

Good Sunday Morning, Neil and everyone. As I called it yesterday, Tracy had no choice. Self-defense.

I sort of called the “Let’s just run someone over with our car!” scenario three years ago, only with the wrong perps and the wrong victim.

This is an awesome Dick Tracy Sunday page! Yet, I wonder if Tracy’s first instinct wouldn’t have been to just roll out of the way, had this happened in real life. Is he shooting a tire out, or shooting right at Ghost? Either way, there is a real good chance that, even if he hits his target, the car could still hit him before it comes to a stop, seeing how close the car is to him. Maybe he’ll shoot once, then roll. That would make a nice bit of action, especially in a movie.

You know how GoComics had a problem with strips not uploading? Comics Kingdom has it worse. Most of their stuff today is from last Sunday. Tracy, thankfully, isn’t among them, but I read it over here because they post it too small.

I’d have played dead until the Ghost was all the way to the back of the truck and then shot…uh, arrested him.

Another Gouldian-styled strip today with the brief recap in the first story panel.

And in the panel where Ghost says “I’ll run him over!” to me his eyes resemble his initials. His right eye looks like the letter G and the left eye looks somewhat like a P with a broken and shortened stem.

At least that’s what I am seeing.

That is one dazed, dopey deer.

Tracy has unlocked himself, inventoried his weapons and rearmed.

Pepper has not only stopped, he’s started to get out of the car so Tracy can draw on him, and then get back in to shift gears and attack Tracy.

Meanwhile, Bambi is STILL there, posing for his “Deer in the Headlights” calendar photo.

Yelling you’re under arrest after being dragged, instead of shooting Pepper is how so many police are getting killed this year.

Mike, Joe, can we PLEASE not have so many “First Responders Roll of Honor” be so depressing? There have to be a lot out there that end happily.

Exactly what is he shooting at? The deer? I assume that Ghost is back inside the car? I think it best if that car is in reverse, he quickly roll out of the way!

Tracy’s shot is true and aimed low, more or less straight ahead from his prone position. Target? A shot to the tire would not stop the rapidly backing van; so, although Tracy is perilously close, my guess is that he’s aiming for the gas tank and hoping for an explosive end to the Ghost Pepper caper!

1931 Dick would’ve plugged him as soon as his head popped out. Technically, Pepper’s drawn a weapon—he’s driving it!
