Bacteria need to destroy and replace their wall cells constantly. Penicillin interferes with that mechanism, the reproduction of the cell wall, not the reproduction of the bacteria.
From what I can find hemochromatosis is hereditary. If you have this condition iron is not sufficiently regulated and can build up depending on diet. There is a good chance that if you have it you may not be able to donate due to the high concentration of iron. I also found out that removing some blood can be beneficial if the iron is to high. The body would just replace it with new and with a good diet change it can be regulated.
I wonder if the blood plasma machine would have any effect on this? Maybe not since red blood cells are returned to you.
Currently in the United States people with hemochromatosis cannot donate their blood. Most patients with this have blood that is perfectly fine to use. Other countries recognize this and allow people to donate. The ban is a stupid waste of badly needed blood.
I have Hemochromatosis !! It is NOT fatal. I have had it all of my 76 years but was only discovered about 10 years ago. It is controlled by having blood drawn every once in awhile. At first they took a pint a week, but now it’s once or twice a year. What is odd, doctors do not test for it routinely? I do not know why. Simple blood test. I am a carrier so all my kids had to be tested. They do not have it. My iron levels are now normal, but some damage was done to my liver and kidneys. Life goes on..but fatal not from that disease.
What I find disturbing is Type O blood is universal, so it is in high demand, but people with type O can only have type O, so they have the hardest time getting organ donor matches because of the high demand, sometimes dying before one can be found. They call us ALL the time begging for more blood.

John Lennon wrote “I Am the Walrus” under LSD’s influence. The “confuse the listeners” is just an excuse.

My cousin died of that. Too much iron in the blood. Though many of us think it was really cirrhosis. He was a HEAVY drinker.

For me, penicillin doesn’t kill bacteria OR keep it from reproducing. I can’t take it. I’m allergic.

I have long thought that Paul McCartney is a far better songwriter than John Lennon was.

I lost all respect for Lennon when I found out how abusive he was to his wives and kids. Hard to think of him as some iconic genius after that.
